For those interested, it looks as if Touro College is offering online degrees again. I know that, at some point or another, Trident used to be part of Touro, and they have since parted ways. However, Touro College is now offering online degrees via Touro University Worldwide. Touro is a very reputable university in the NY area.
This is interesting, I just wish the degree would be issue by Touro College instead of a spin off that may or may not be sold off to a for-profit....not that I am bitter or anything.
Why would it be issued by "Touro College"? Touro College is in New York City... and Touro University has other campuses in California, Nevada, and Rome each with names reflective of their location. I imagine that Touro University Worldwide would be no different. Wouldn't gaining your degree from the Wolrdwide campus, but having a diploma saying "Touro College" be like going to UC-Santa Barbara but with your diploma reading "UC-Berkeley"? I do think it's interesting that TUI split from Touro, and now Touro is creating an all-new online campus.
Other schools have online divisions and there is no distinction from the online version vs. on campus with respect to the name of the school. Why not just have a degree offered by Touro College that is offered online?
Yes, and I think that is a big issue. I know years ago when I was looking at the old TUI, its connection to Touro College was a huge factor because Touro College is a well respected school. I would have been irritated to have it sold off and turn into Trident, etc. I suppose now the question is, does Touro intend to keep this college? PS I agree with whoever said it should just be Touro College on the diploma. Liberty as I recall finally gave up years ago making graduates of the DL part graduate from the LU School of Lifelong Learning and just made it a Liberty U diploma with no reference to LUSLLL.
It does confuse me why some schools continue to get love when their business practices are so harmful to their students..weird..
Dunno. Maybe in Touro's case, it's because they are still regionally accredited (despite their issues) and have a (relatively) well known name...
Hmm, UoP and AIU also meet that criteria.. just saying they don't seem to get the same positive forgiveness... I'm not actually judging here I just find it interesting..
Having lived many years in New Orleans, whenever I hear the word "Touro" the next word that comes to mind is "Infirmary." Home - Touro Infirmary - Touro Infirmary
If anyone knowingly applies to a branch of a university under any name, whether it be Touro University Worldwide, UMass Boston (the branch of UMass that delivered my mother's BSN degree online), SUNY Binghamton, UNC Greensboro, or any other university belonging to a larger system but operating as it's own institution... you should expect a diploma stating that institution as where you graduated from. I feel sorry for the people who applied to TUI assuming that they were getting the same education and diploma as students who graduated from Touro College or the other branches of the university system. I hope that you worked hard, though, and that it shows more than the name on your degree.
