Whining: This is a bit unusual at my school but the statistics class I'm in for the summer is requiring 330 pages of textbook reading, a small assignment and 6 small quizzes; all of these assigned on Monday and due on Sunday.

Waaaaa! I want my mommie! :kabong:

Added to this is the fact that for many people statistics/math is not a real area of strength. It sounds like a lot of work even if you're good at it.

My first semester at Northeastern started yesterday and I have 150 pages to read... like, tonight. What was I thinking?! :dunno:

...ergo, I'd rather play Candy Land than seek a doctorate. :eek13: Have fun

Candy Land just isn't the same since they took out Plumpy. I guess he was too busy working on an online PhD.

Stats was by-far the most difficult course in my PhD program. I had to take leave from work in order to finish assignments on time. I understand concepts far better - but I'll still have to pay an outside stats person to assist with my dissertation research.

Yea, I'm probably in the same boat as you. Fortunately for me, my primary job is being a Jr. high teacher, so that job is off until fall and my schedule is lighter. I might would have had to take leave like you did otherwise. I'm doing fine in the class, it just requires more mental effort from me than all my other classes.

ohhh sounds awful! Is it an accelerated course due to being summer? Maybe a full semester pace would have been slower- that's a LOT of reading and quizzes?! When exactly do you have time to "learn" the material??

Yea, when? It's insane. It's an 8 week course. I'm really having a hard time with it. I'm not sure how they expect us to absorb that much material.

    Check out Khan Academy.
The statistics videos are very helpful in understanding concepts.
Good luck with the class. I am taking statistics soon and am a little worried about it as well. I have been studying off and on prior to taking the class in order to get a leg up.

Thanks, Khan is a good website. I've recommended it to others, as well. My problem is not so much in grasping the concepts, it's the workload. Fortunately, the workload is not quite as heavy for the rest of the class.

EDUC 712 Advanced Statistics. I've got a lot done now and I should be able to get it all in by Sunday night. I was in a panic there for awhile.

I'm feeling ya on the heavy workload for an 8 week class. I had an English 1B course I took online for 8 weeks and had to write like 16 papers two per week of 3000 words each. The readings were on every type of literature with the last being Hamlet, yes Hamlet for an 8 week course. And she graded hard as He!!. She said right up front in the syllabus to expect to put in 31 hours per week for her class alone.

If I didn't need it for my degree at the time I would have bailed.
