I will drop the class I'm in now and move one to a school with more flexibility down the road. AJU is a good school but they are inflexible when it comes to Clep, ACE and other types of credit.

I purchased Rosetta Stone and will be spending all my free time over the next year or so learning Spanish. At the end of that year I will do a two week Spanish immersion program if I can.

I met my goals with my AS and I am very proud of myself. Now its time to take a break and do something I really want to do!!! Just so yall know I'm still ed crazy, I hope to use all of my work to pass some Spanish cleps :p

Rosetta Stone is a good program, probably one of the best language programs out there. Best wishes to you in your new decision.

Existe solamente uno. El examen no es dificil, pero, tengo que advertirle que Rosetta Stone probablamente no bastará en ayudarle a lograr que pasarlo. :mischievous:

Thats what I have heard...so thats why I'm going to do the two week Spanish immersion program. From day one you can only use Spanish.

Good resources are About.com and livemocha.com. If you want a book, I suggest the REA book for the exam. It is a bit disorganized, but extremely thorough. If you can get through the book, the exam will be una brisa.

I know how you feel. Its painful working through classes when you know your interest is elsewhere. After I finish my degree I’m only taking classes I’m interested in. No more forcing things for me.

There is also another way to get Spanish credit, if you go to a school that accepts ACE evaluations. Take the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview. It is given over the phone. You can get a maximum of 12 ACE credits. I prefer it because it relies on spoken Spanish, as opposed to written Spanish. I almost never write anything in Spanish, but I use spoken Spanish all the time when I am working abroad.

I keep putting off taking the test because I haven't needed the certification or the credits. However, I would like to take the test before the end of the year when I update my resume for 2012.

This is devastating news for me, a good degree is a finished degree, I would urge you to reconsider. Finish the darn thing!!!

Since you're interested in learning Spanish, you may want to try Michel Thomas' way of learning ( The Michel Thomas Method - The Natural Way to Learn a New Language ) My french progressed immensely based on his program.

I totally agree with Dr. Lady. If you stop in the middle of a degree it is going to be very hard to get the ball rolling again...

I know it seems crazy to stop when I will be done by the end of the year. I do not need my degree for work though. I started this wanting my AS degree, I have it now. I want to spend all my free time learning, just not for college credit. My brother went from O to 100 in a year or so, where we live it makes your life some much easier. I run a store that has a lot of Spanish speaking customers, me speaking Spanish makes better financial sense then finishing my BS. I will do it in the next few years.

mcjon77---Thinks for that info. 12 hours is a lot for an oral exam...I will do that someday.

Credits I can get for learning Spainish--

ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview-- 12 Hours
    Clep Levl. 1-2 --12 Hours

A friend of my who is in their MBA program is considering quitting because the school is not responding to his requests for a standard process that they have related to course and learning objectives for the Experiential Learning. HE told me that these usually emailed to student within 3 days of the reception of the request form.

Its been two weeks, he left voice messages to the responsible admin, he wrote emails etc.

No response, his Student Services admin replied that the other Admin supposed to provide the info, and copied that person but still no email.

There are other requests he made to the same office and no response as well.
He is disappointed and possibly will be quitting, for now he emailed and called the president of the university.

If you're looking for an immersion program take a look at the summer programs offered by Middlebury College. They offer the immersion programs at campus across the country and Middlebury has a phenomenal reputation.

Well even then at least acknowledge the request, send email that it may take 3 weeks or 5 weeks something, don't simply ignore students.

I'm sure they have good education but they need to improve their student services

I'm sorry to hear that about AJU. When I was a student there I found their customer service to be second to none. It sounds like the ownership change has affected this, and not for the better.

Also, you mentioned the school was "inflexible" when it came to CLEP, DANTES, etc. Keep in mind that the DETC limits the number of credits AJU can use from these sources, so it could be a DETC issue, not an AJU issue.
