The 'Chronicle of Higher Education' reports that Sylvan Learning Centers has acquired a controlling 51% stake in Walden University. Apparently this was not unexpected and has been in the works for months. No changes in its name or programs are anticipated for Walden. There may be increased marketing of Walden programs through Sylvan, though. An interesting sidelight in the story is that it is reported that Walden is doing very well and its enrollment is growing rapidly (about 2,700 currently), due in part to a new masters for elementary school teachers that they recently rolled out.
