Dear fellow knowledge- and education seekers, I have been lurking around for the past weeks, and finally decided to join. This forum is an awesome resource and I love reading posts here! I am an expat living in the Netherlands, and I am sure that I want to pursue an online degree as I do not fancy taking a local part-time degree in Dutch. Although I am confident in the language, I do not see myself writing 20 page papers in it as that might be a tad tough. I am a telecommunications professional with 7 years exeperience in the industry, currently working for one of the largest manufacturers of networking equipment in the world, so I think that I won't miss anything as far as on-site lab experience goes. I am definitely interested in a degree related to IT (preferably networking or telecommunications), and the reason I posted this in the General DL discussion forum is because of the following questions: First off, I am aware that a substantial number of General Education credits are needed for all degrees, and I was initially thinking of taking these with the Uni I decide to study at. However, I realized that there must be cheaper options that to pay $300+ per credit for history and math lessons... So, I would like to know if there are any alternatives for cheap GED credits, so that I do not have to spend thousands on stuff not related to my degree I have read all that I could find here on trying to look for options, and I've read about CLEPs and DANTES and all that, but I am not sure if I can just take exams on those subjects here. I'd be eternally grateful for any advice that you might offer! Thank you, Fin
Yes, they are called clep. You take a test and be done with it. $77 dolars per a test. About the College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Thanks for your reply imathere, I already read about CLEPs, and it seems that they do not have any test centers in the Netherlands. Are there any other options for me to complete affordable general education credits? I have checked out sites like StraighterLine, but would just want to run all this by you guys as I want to do everything legit Thanks again for your input!
Given that you are a native English speaker and living in Europe, I'd suggest that you look at the Open University, Distance Learning Courses and Adult Education - The Open University
Thanks for your answer, Kizmet, but how is the Open University recognized outside the UK? Also, their IT degree seems so general, not much structure to it... Thanks though! Cheers, Fin
