dose anyone know why penn foster college, is not regionally accredited, and is there any information that they are going to be in the near feature. thank you in advance.
They are not regionally accredited because they have not sought out this accreditation. There is no reason to believe that this will change in the near future.
They are not RA but a ton of their courses are ACE reviewed which is a huge + over most other NA schools.
You can take some of their ACE reviewed courses and transfer them quickly to Thomas Edison State College. TESC also accepts straighterline.com and ALEKS -- Assessment and Learning, K-12, Higher Education, Automated Tutor, Math as a source of ACE credit. These options plus CLEP and DSST are great ways to fulfill the requirements for a bachelors degree.
Back when they were known as Education Direct, they actually were a candidate for regional accreditation. However, they withdrew their candidacy, probably because they were being sold and then subsequently renamed Penn Foster College. They haven not sought RA since that time, but instead announced they were concentrating on partnerships with RA schools to offer BAs and MAs. However, they now offer their own BAs.
I earned several credits in an A.A. Program and a certificate with them as Tompson Education Direct while in the military which I did transfer to an RA school (about 40 or so credits in all I think). That was about 8-9 years ago. DETC makes sense for them I would think. They offer a wide array of programs...
So let me get this straight. Penn Foster is not regionally accredited but a regionally accredited University will accept their credits? Why? How? If they aren't regionally accredited then why would we take classes there? Is there a good reason?
Penn Foster was originally international correspondence institute which began in 1890. They have a ton of credibility as one of the very first distance learning institutions. They were a charter member of the inception of DETC in 1926.
Credits are evaluated on a case by case basis. There are RA unis that take NA credits as transfer. Peru, EC and TESC have taken NA credits in transfer, and that is just to name a few. Like Ryoder said, Penn Foster has the added advantage that some of their courses are ACE evaluated. Abner
I could of sworn, when I called and got info, that the lady told me they were regionally and nationally accredited.
Penn Foster Career School, at pennfoster.edu and based , is nationally accredited by the DETC, and regionally accredited, by the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association, as a non-degree granting career/technology institution, (and, also under this accreditation, as a high school, Penn Foster High School). Penn Foster College, the degree-granting one, at pennfostercollege.edu and based in Scottsdale, AZ, is nationally accredited by the DETC, and state approved by Arizona, to offer associate's and bachelor's degrees, but these are not regionally accredited. Neither of these divisions holds regional accreditation at the degree-granting level. And their websites link to each other almost seamlessly and share common design elements.
am thinking about taking medical transcription coarse at penn foster any idea if this is a good school to start at? so far its affordable other places so far online are extremly costly any suggestions and opinions are greatly appreciated!!
Sure it will be fine; PF is good for that kind of stuff. It's has DETC so it's useable credit/course. And as always the price is right! Cheap!
