How is a Heriot Watt MBA or any non top ranked european
degree perceived by American Employers and Abroad?.

    Fine !

Ranking in the UK and abroad is not like ranking in the US.

In the UK they have a policy of "common coin", in other words your "coin" should provide the same level of education regardless of the university you attend. This is facilited by the UK method of quality of control which is a method of cross validation between universities.

Of course all the universities are not considered equal but the relative difference is not like it is in the US.

Also, Heriot-Watt is not "top-ten" however the university is considered second-tier, the university ranks extremely well in teaching quality assessment and the business school has been ranked within the top 30.

    Hi,
I have completed HW last year, so I will try to be neutral, but you know the bias...

    1. HW is royal chartered, and recognised as public education. Private schools/university have bad reputation in Europe, they are mainly for children of big fortune, having no need to look for a job, as dad will place them on boards anyway.

    2. DL master make no difference, as the content is exactly the same as campus master. The so-called Interactivity gained in campus is acquired on job, when you present new ideas , straight out from the course. Your bosses see the difference...

    3. Sorry, but to be honnest, US diplomas have not always a good reputation in Europe, except for medical, computer, biology.
It is a pitty for the good schools( and serious students), but all jokes around diploma mills, football teams and one week degrees dont give a nice picture.
But the success of US economy is the best diploma !!!

    Good luck,
    Stan

At least you have a choice. With the H-W DL MBA, you only have one choice: MBA in nine days.

You take nine (or is it 8?) tests and you have your degree. You can combine your life experience knowledge and however much additional studying is required for the tests, and voila: out pops a degree. No classes, no residencies...just a series of qualifying tests. Sounds a lot like BA in 4 weeks to me. Different tests, different degree, same concept (smile).

Still is longer than the 2 day CPA. (smile)

    Ho My God,....
Bill, before taking even a single test, you will have to study 200 hours at leasts, practice a lot of cases study, past exams.
3 hours writing by hand, no open books.
The answer has to follow the british academic skeleton, where the student has to demonstrate understanding of the subject, and not only knowing by heart.
It is a postgrade course, following a graduate structure. Classes are available, if you need it, at HW campus. Exactly the same course, same textbook for same exam.
Basically, count 2000 hours of study for this MBA.
As many others european diplomas, they are public and not private. And that is the point.

    All the best,
    Stan
