Florida looks to rein in for-profit colleges.

    The title of the article is a bit misleading--Florida is only going after Education Management corporation.

    Some colleges treat their admissions departments as purely sales departments. I am aware of at least one that does not have an admissions department at all--they had a sales department with personnel paid on commission.

    Fortunately, not all for-profit schools run this way. Our admissions officers are salaried and are paid on a sliding scale. They also spend a great deal of time guiding students through the entire entrance exam and matriculation process. Fortunately for us, the new regulations in this area did not affect us at all.

    While I do not agree with all of the things that the U.S. Department of Education is trying to do, getting rid of "the matrix" (incentive compensation for admissions) is a good thing.
