I have a total of around 100 credit hours from RA schools, but none at the upper level.

I need to find an online college to finish my degree with, but I'm not having much luck finding what I need.

I need one that allows me to work at my own pace, maybe even do one class at a time, then as soon as I finish, move on to the next one.

I also work at a non-flexible 8am to 5pm job, so I wouldn't be able to leave to take cleps / proctored exams. This means that I would need to be able to take all exams online.

I am not big into math / science, so I would prefer a social science program.

Please feel free to give me any suggestions.

    Thank you!

We created the Aspen BGS, Bachelor of General Studies program exactly for your situation. I don’t run Aspen anymore (now I am at Online College Degrees William Howard Taft University), but Taft doesn’t have a $100 per credit hour general studies program (yet). In the program upper and lower division don’t matter as much as meeting the general education requirements. Go to www.aspen.edu and look at the program and if your courses are in those areas it might be a quick and affordable way to finish. You would need to take 30 credits so at $100 per credit that would only be $3,000.

I'm not a troll, I am just seeing if there are any new options for me.

My sitiuation has changed since my last post, so I was just trying to see how I can finish my degree.

My financial aid was approved for this year, so I can now restart the completion of my degree.

I went to UNCC (North Carolina) for 2 years, then CPCC (Also, in NC) for another year or so.

I wish that I had just stuck it out, but I couldn't find what I was looking for at either of those.

    I'll look into Aspen though.

How long do you think that it would take me to finish there?

    Thanks for your help!

Don't worry, we would never think of you as a troll. An ogre maybe, but never a troll.

I always recommend Excelsior College to anyone who has a lot of transfer units. They are among the most liberal of all the RA schools in accepting transfer.

I guess my last reply didnt post? (Not on my end anyway)

Sorry, I'm not a troll. I just wanted to post again to see if there are any new options for me.

Aspen sounds promising and I read on their BGS site, that they would only require 3 proctored exams, which I think that I could do.

I posted the question again because my situation has changed and I wanted to know if there was anything self paced without proctored (or too many proctored) exams.

    Thanks for you help!

    Are there any other suggestions?

    Thanks again.

I'm trying to get better about that :)

I would like to use excelsior as a means to graduate but not necessarily to earn credit... I do have financial aid, but at $325+ per credit, that would drain my aid fairly quickly.

I'm not against taking courses at a school, then transferring to Excelsior for the big finish, but just need some help finding that perfect school. It's hard to earn a degree online if you:

    A) Work 8am to 5pm and can't take days off for proctored exams..

    and

    B) Don't want to spend 3 years getting 30 credits on a regular semester schedule.

I wish I could find something that would fit this, but most that offer courses at your own pace are either expensive or require proctored exams...

Any other ideas? I know that my requirements are extremely limiting and unique, which is why I'm in a bind.

Can you locate a CLEP/DSST center that will let you test on weekends?

Also, I've heard Excelsior will accept NA credits on a case-by-case basis. Maybe Andrew Jackson University, Aspen University or Columbia Southern would be good fits for this? I understand Aspen's fairly writing intensive, so you might not have as many tests there.

There's also FEMA courses, but I don't know how many credits you can get via that route.

I have a friend with 3 AAS degrees from RA colleges and universities who is now working on the Bachelors in Social Sciences.

Most of the colleges and universities require to complete what is called "residency requirements" number of units you need to take at the college.

Excelsior for example requires 12, Charter Oak requires 6 units and Tomas Edison State College allows to transfer all the unites and also has some requirement they also have fees, and last time I checked completed degree at TESK would cost my friend 5000 USD if he would take 2 classes. I think COSC was the cheaper option.

Most other colleges will require the classes to match their program and then complete the remaining 25% of the degree in their college.

Andrew Jackson University uses on line proctoring service its $30 per exam but you can take the test anywhere and they have flexible hours as well.

Aspen and AJU are DETC accredited if you need an RA university then you should try the bug 4 mentioned earlier.

Don't do Aspen. Get a regionally accredited degree at the very least. Lots of BGS programs out there at state universities. FHSU accepts something ridiculous like 90 hours or so_One caveat, while they do allow a high number of electives from any subject, they require students to fulfill certain general education requirements on top of a 21 hour concentration.

    Good luck.

When I went to Excelsior, they were known as USNY. They only required 12 credit hours to be upper level. Has that since changed. Also, they made a mistake when approving my course load at a Local community college, they accepted responsibility for that. So it only came out to 9 credit hours upper level.

Although I admire what Aspen is doing, I have to agree with the above post. With 100 RA credits, I don't see any reason to go to Aspen or ANY DETC/NA only school. An NA bachelors degree WILL limit the schools you can go to for graduate school, if you chose to go. There are TONS of schools where you can complete your bachelors degree. Check out Excelsior, Charter Oak State College, and Thomas Edison State College.
