Higher education builds growing presence uptown | CharlotteObserver.com & The Charlotte Observer Newspaper

"Northeastern has asked the state's higher education licensing authority, the UNC Board of Governors, for approval to offer eight master's degree programs and one doctoral program, all tied closely to Charlotte's business and industry hubs such as health care, finance and energy."

I am wondering if the Doctorate will be the Ed.D. program that they have in Leadership?

"Mantella emphasized the degrees wouldn't duplicate what is already offered by established Charlotte schools."

That leads me to believe it will not be, since UNC and Queens both have an Ed.D if I remember correctly.

DBA sure would be nice... but not sure what they are accredited for already. (Will they have to get SACS approval or just run under their current regional accred)

Thought it was interesting at the least....I "suspect" it will include DL like their Ed.D which is why I am posting it up here.

Feel free to speculate...!! (I remember seeing UC-Berkley expanding into NYC, looks like this is a new trend!?)

I too would love to get some insight on the Doctoral plan in the works for Charlotte. My family and I will likely be relocating to Atlanta in the next 6 -9 months. With Charlotte being only 4-5 hour drive from Atlanta even something a more periodic Weekend Cohort would be feasible. I like very much the look of their EdD in Organizational Leadership.

My gut tells me it the Charlotte-based Doctorate will either be a spin-off of that program, less "Education" and more "Organizational" focus along the lines of Sociology/Social Psychology or perhaps as you state a DBA.

Interesting tid bit: "Northeastern wants to avoid duplication of programs offered by UNC Charlotte, Wake Forest University’s local MBA program and other graduate offerings."

The same part of Northeastern that offers the EdD also offers a Doctor of Law and Policy. Perhaps that's what they're do there?

That might fit the communities' need. A quick internet glance revealed EdDs in Curriculum, Admin, and even PhD in Business Admin at UNC-Charlotte. I could be very wrong but I believe Northeastern's Doctor of Law and Policy is pretty unique.

Steve, I saw on your blog that you are looking to start the International Higher Ed EdD program at Northeastern soon. That is awesome. The Org Leadership one appeals to me too. Northeastern overall has a great name and reputation. That means a lot more than many people ever give credit.

Yes, my first two classes start next month, and I'll be spending a week in Boston in mid-July. I appreciate that people seem to think well of Northeastern, but the tuition rate was also a draw. At just under $24K total it's pretty reasonable by American standards.

Steve, I have seen you are at/done with you first Northeastern residency. I would love to hear your observations as well as those of the non-residential coursework. Northeastern's EdD in Organizational Leadership and Communication is quite appealing to me.

    Novadar,

I am working on my final course right now with the Northeastern EdD program. However, I am in the higher ed concentration. I would have taken the leadership and communication concentration if I had it to do over. I actually may have been at the residency with Steve. The program is great. I recommend it to anyone who can get in.

Also, according to the powers that be, the Charlotte campus will have the EdD.
