    ProctorU: Real People. Real Proctoring.

All you need is a webcam with a microphone and a reliable, high-speed internet connection.

ProctorU allows you to take your exam from anywhere using a web cam and a high speed internet connection.

Straighterline (not a college, but an ACE evaluated course by subscription service) also uses Proctor U.

I've done about 25 or so exams with them and I've had issues with their quality. I even posted that they were millish and substanderd at one time. But they have gotten better and are following their own rules to ensure there is no cheating going on.

Yes, AJU is one of the universities that uses their service. At AJU as I understand the mid terms and finals are via ProctorU.
I see a nice list of colleges many RA universities as well.

Are there any other services like this?

I was told they co own it and one of the partners.
American National University also owns it as a partner.

At one time or another ProctorU has listed the following partners:

    *The University of Maryland
    *University of Maryland (College Park)
    *University of Maryland University College

From what I can gather, ProctorU has never had an actual relationship with any of these schools where students could take exams through their service. At some point a UMUC department did conduct research on the feasibility and effectiveness of ProctorU's service (maybe allowing one DL section of classes to take exams through this service once), but using this as a justification for labeling UMUC as a "partner institution" is pretty misleading. Since I could find so little about this, the results were probably less than promising. ProctorU has gone one step further in its lack of honesty by relabeling UMUC as "The University of Maryland" which as everyone probably already knows here is a valid name for UMCP and the professional schools in Baltimore, but cannot be used (by Maryland statute) to refer to any other school in the Maryland system.

I think it's great that a school like UMUC is looking at ProctorU for research purposes, but ProctorU appears to be quite disingenuous about this relationship.

We use them at Taft and it works very well. Each of our business courses has a proctored exam at the end, so this is a really nice way of coordinating everything.

Hi guys... my name is Jarrod Morgan, and I am with ProctorU. Some of you guys may remember me when I posted on this board during my time with Andrew Jackson University. I left AJU last year and work with ProctorU full time now.

I wanted to chime into the conversation to clear a few things up.

On the issue of ownership, ProctorU was created inside of Andrew Jackson University but was later spun out into it's own company to better serve other schools. We are an independent company, and are not owned by any school.

For b4cz28, your past post referring to us as "a bit millish" was a little hurtful, but highlighted some things that needed to change for our AJU procedures. Because of the fact that AJU used ProctorU before it was a different company, AJU had a completely different set of procedures. Until recently, this arrangement did not include "every time" authentication via the challenge questions. This was only an issue with AJU, as other schools had them every time. We were already updating the standards for AJU at the time, and we have completed this transition. We take quality and integrity very seriously, and while we may not always be perfect, posts like yours allow us to continue to improve. Thanks being a dedicated user, and please continue to communicate with us if you see areas we can improve.

for funInSun, I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

In case you aren't aware, "The University of Maryland (College Park)" is also referred to as just "The University of Maryland" (google both phrases.. you get The University of Maryland). Our web guys originally listed them using the "College Park" qualifier, but later decided to drop it. A UMD instructor contacted us in 2010 originally to help a student finish a course despite being confined to a hospital bed, and we were glad to step in and help. We've since begun expanding.

As for UMUC, we completed a pilot with them in the Spring of 2009 and posted a 100% success rate. We worked primarily in History and Economics courses. While we were very well received by those who were involved with the pilot, the university system has decided that the RFP we were involved in should be amended, and they are currently looking for a student authentication system, not proctoring. We hope to be able to work with them again soon, but we are happy to note that we are currently offered in over 70 distance learning programs.

Saying that we have never had a relationship with these schools is simply not true.

    ---

As for those of you who have used the service, please don't be afraid to reach out to us if you have feedback or need some help. We want to help move integrity in distance education forward, but we can't do that without being the best we can be.

I just found out about PROCTOR U, and now I see it's the real thing.

The troubled Ellis University now uses them as well, they said it was because DETC now "required" certain courses to be proctored. That little fact is also new to me.
