Hello all, brand new to the forum. What I am looking for are 3 to 4 300 level biology courses available online. I would prefer courses that can be started anytime, and are work at your own pace, but I am willing to take what is available. I'm not in need of a degree program, just about 12 hours worth of credits in 300 level biology or higher. Also, I need this to be from an accredited college/university. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Take a look at the UMUC undergraduate schedule of classes, I was surprised how many there were. You could take 2 in the summer, and then 2 in the fall if you have the time. If you're a Maryland resident, they are a good price but I think they're a little expensive for non-military out of state. This is what they list for online classes in the fall for 300/400 level (I left out the 1 credit classes and the 3 classes that are only being taught F2F): *BIOL 301 Human Health and Disease (3) *BIOL 302 Bacteria, Viruses, and Health (3) *BIOL 320 Forensic Biology (3) *BIOL 325 Inquiries in Biological Science (3) - this looks like it's a prerequisite for a lot of other courses, so maybe take this one in the summer? *BIOL 350 Molecular and Cellular Biology (3) *BIOL 362 Neurobiology (3) *BIOL 400 Life Science Seminar (3) *BIOL 422 Epidemiology of Emerging Infections (3) These usually require a proctored final which you can take at any community college's testing center, but some people do see that as a downside (personally I think proctored exams for online courses are a very GOOD idea, and really legitimize the course for a lot of people).
Harvard Extension has a number of upper level bio courses. Not cheap, but you can preview the first hour of most for free. Harvard Home
Check out Cal-Berkeley extension- they have some interesting UL bio courses and are self-paced. I think they would also be less expensive than the other options listed above. Mountain State University also has an impressive variety of UL bio courses available via independent study. The most inexpensive UL bio courses may be with Empire State College, but theirs are semester-based.
Mountain State University offers more than six.... Mountain State University is in West Virginia, with a formidable distance program. Mountain State University via online” cell and molecular biology, and biochemistry at 400 level); and Science Research Methods at 300. Via “independent study,”- meaning correspondence? - there are six 300 level courses, from Botany, Genetics, Stream Ecology, Wildlife Management, and Entomology. DOWNSIDE? All courses appear to be on a synchronous schedule, ie, coordinated with their on campus semesters.
