Berkeley Extension has a few Professional Certificates, and some courses from these certificates can also be taken independently. They're quite pricey (well for me anyway) at $715 course plus books etc.

Has anyone done any course with them or know anything about what it's like? The online course demo looks interesting.

    Thanks!

I took Calculus I & II through Berkeley Extension. For those courses there was just a set of notes in PDF format and you scanned/emailed your work to the instructor. There was a proctored final. It really felt like I was on my own throughout the courses...I had to read the chapters and attempt the HW problems (which were not too challenging but if the material was foreign then it could still be difficult).

I took a Shakespeare class through Berkeley Extension. There were no lectures to watch, but the professor provided a fair amount of original material on the web. Great detailed feedback from the professor on our writing assignments. Lots of interaction with the professor and other students through the discussion board (a certain number of postings were required and graded). Proctored final.

The professor who teaches this online course for the Extension school also teaches the same Intro to Shakespeare course in the regular UC Berkeley undergrad program. She's done an interesting study comparing the outcomes of the online and f2f versions of the course here - http://bobhails.com/articles/differences%20in%20learning%20outcomes%20for%20the%20online%20and%20f2f%20versions%20of%20a%20shakespeare%20course.pdf. Surprisingly, her finding is that the online version is more effective than face to face.

Thanks for that link Balios. If you don't mind, I'm going to start a new thread that features the link you provided. I'll give you credit for it.

    Thanks guys!

I was thinking of taking Business Essentials. This course can be taken anytime, you have 6 months to finish and there is a proctored exam. But other than that I know nothing about how it's taught.
