    Howdy!

Short notice in advance: I'm talking about the University of South Africa, not Australia. ;-)

I've just completed my application for UNISA for a bachelor degree in languages and am now waiting for my payment (registration fee) to arrive the university's account (will take about 1-2 weeks).

Unfortunately, I "just" got a University of Applied Science Etrance Qualification after passing grade 12, but no general university entrance qualification. I know that the university offers so-called "Access Courses", but it's a moot point to get further information by the university or their homepage...

Does anyone know more about these access courses? Or can tell my about his experiences with studying at UNISA? It's very hard to find records in the internet...

    Regards from Germany

I think that "access courses" are a sort of remedial step that some people are required to take if their high school experience is seen as lacking in some way. Probably not a problem for someone coming out of the German educational system. One thing that you will want to check, if you haven't already, is the location of the nearest testing center. All your exams will need to be taken in an approved testing center. Often the default center is the South African Embassy in your country. Once you're enrolled you can petition to use a different location but, of course, there are criteria that must be followed. All the testing centers are listed on the website. I thought about doing my Math BA through UNISA but I'd have to travel to NYC for every exam. This increased the price per course and decreased the convenience quotient to a point where I said "No thanks."
