How many credits do those of you seeking your DL Masters usually take per semester? 6 or 9 credits?

I am intending to pay for my Masters out of pocket and have it completely paid off before I done with the program, however I am going to use financial aid and use my husband bonuses that he receives from work (guaranteed) to pay them off as we get them. We will have plenty to pay it off before I am done.

But for Fin aid at my school full time is 9 grad credits, 7-8 credits is 3/4 time and 6 credits is part time. Curious what it is at other places? I don't care about getting fin aid for full time because I don't need it but wondering how those of you who do deal with 9 credits?

Just curious how many credits you guys take at once?

For my MPH, I took three classes every ten weeks because I needed to be full time for GI Bill purposes. It sucked.

9 credit hours is the standard for full-time graduate study. I take 6 hours at a time because I work full-time and teach on the side. Most people who work only take six. If you don't work, I think 9 would be fairly easy.

I don't work other than taking care of an almost 4 year old ;)...hmmm wondering if I should sign up for 9 in the fall... I have access to all the syllabuses for the courses so I guess ill spend some time to day reading then and see what I am for with an extra class.

If this is your first semester, you might try starting out with 6 and see how it treats you. There's nothing to say that you can't change your course load after a semester. It's better to start slow and see how it goes rather than to have to withdraw from a course because it's too much.

Actually I am attending the summer semester and it will be my first and I am only taking 2 courses/6 credits (in 12 weeks). So that should let me know if I can handle 3 in the fall with 16 weeks. Registration is going on for fall though so I need to choose the extra course and get registered in it and I can always drop the course before the start of the semester if I need to.

The courses actually do not look to bad and each only require 1 major paper and a few mini's throughout according to the syllabus so I think I would be okay with 3 but will see how the summer semester goes!!!!
