I just transferred out of Liberty University's Ed.S. degree program into Walden University's Ed.D. Higher Education and Adult Learning degree program. I loved Liberty's program, but always wanted to concentrate in adult learning. So I decided to transfer out after 9 credits of doctoral work at 4.00 gpa with Liberty University. I am excited but I am saddened because Liberty University is a great school.

Best of luck to you. Sounds like a win-win situation.

    Randell1234 -Thank you

Thank you. I am a bit apprehensive about this transfer. Perhaps this is a common reaction.

I looked at Walden too, but chose Liberty. I wanted an Ed Tech concentration but chose Teaching and Learning at Liberty and I will write my dissertation on an Ed Tech subject. How is the price difference between Walden and Liberty?

Isn't Walden significantly more expensive than Liberty? IIRC, Northeastern and Memphis are also in Liberty's price range.

Yes, I think so. When I checked on a doctorate with them in a different subject over a year ago, it appeared that it was going to be 2 to 3 times the price of Liberty, depending on how quickly you can get through the dissertation. Not sure about that, I didn't look that carefully at Walden.

Yes it is more expensive. However, the Walden program only requires one three day intensive, 54 sem. credits if the doctoral study is approved first go around, textbooks are included in the tuition. Tuition is in the $750.00 per semester credit range. So I guess Walden's will cost about 1.33 X Liberty's price, or something in that order. I am big on Liberty...they have been very good to me. However, a want a different concentration than what Liberty offers. Who knows by the time classes begin in about five or six weeks from now I may jump ship again. It may be that I am one of the "cannot decide which doctorate program to go with" desperadoes.

Isn't that you have GPA 0.0 at Walden University to start up with? I mean most of the institutions do not carry the GPA from previous institution into your admitted program. I transferred 48 credits to Capella University for my Doctorate, and I had 0.0 GPA to start up.

30% more in tuition is not that bad at all. Walden is a great school, so I'm told.

Did you check to see if LU's expansion would include a concentrate in Adult Education? I'm not claiming insider information but a former dean with a PhD in Adult Ed is (rumored to be) joining the Ed faculty.

    That would great...I would stay.

Greymatter that would be a fantastic.

I was stating I had a 4.00 with Liberty University-not Walden. In fact, Walden does not allow any transfer credits into the Ed.D. degree program.

I must say Walden's technology platform and organization is top notch... Of course this is not to say that "customer service" will be good at Walden. I have read many mixed reviews about Walden actually about 50 percent pro and 50% con.

I'm sure the service at Walden will be fine; you can't trust those online review boards because they are mostly filled with frustrated students who want to vent. Almost every school out there gets ripped to shreds on those websites. I doubt you will receive the amazing service that Liberty provides, but I'm sure you will have little problem at Walden. So if Walden better fits your needs, I say go for it.

    You are probably correct

I tend to agree with you surf many disgruntled former students will skew the reviews towards the negative. Thanks for your posting.
