Questions about UMass Lowell

I'm thinking about completing my bachelor's degree online at UMass Lowell, most likely in psychology. From what I've seen on the website, it seems like a solid school, and the price is pretty good. I have some questions for those who attended the college.

    1. What was your overall experience like? Were the instructors responsive and helpful? Are the classes as difficult as what you'd find in a physical classroom?

    2. Is the diploma the same as the one earned by traditional students?

    3. Does the admission policy for online students differ from that of the traditional students attending physical classes?

    4. If anyone majored in psychology, I'd like to hear your feedback on the quality of the classes and whether or not you were successful finding employment after graduating.

    Thanks

Our own SuperModerator Bruce is a grad of UMass Lowell (different program though). If you send him a pm I'm sure he'll be happy to tell you about his overall impression of the school.

I am able to answer questions 2 and 3 here.

    2. My mother and her cousin both completed their bachelor's with UMass online programs. My mother from UMass Boston and her cousin from UMass Amherst. Both have diplomas that are the same as anyone else who graduated from UMass. When I went to my mother's graduation in Boston, it was the normal graduation for her school (the school of health sciences, maybe?) and she walked just the same as everyone else. The only ID factor as an online student was when they announced her cohort by saying "RN to BSN online cohort, class of 2009!"

    3. As far as I know the admission process is the same. However, I think there are some residency requirements that are different from the physical students. For instance, my mother's program required her to do a 2-week residency and orientation at first... but she talked to her program person and was able to not go. I guess that part depends on the program.

Maybe I can answer #4. too.

Depending on the kind of job that you want to get, I am pretty sure that you could get one with a degree from UMass. If I could get hired as a Mental Health Worker at the psych hospital that employs me with a degree from Bellevue, you can definitely do it with a UMass degree. That is, if you want to do mental health work.
