I can see the points being made on both sides. This caught my eye because my own work can be found through Google. But, like those mentioned in the article, I tend to see the book as a different animal created for a different audience.

Interesting, thanks for that. It's almost like the problem of music being downloaded instead of being bought. This practice is almost destroying the music industry. Now research is available online and hampering the sale of academic books.

The positive side is the open access to publishing on the Internet. This phenomena has made publishing available to many academics who were heretofore unable to land a publishing deal. In this case, there is little monetary compensation, but at least the author's work is out there.
