Good Morning, I need some suggestions for testing to fulfill upper level requirements for the Liberal Studies. My husband needs 30 credits for the 2nd degree. I have (I believe) all the dl books, I've read Lawries guide. He went with TESC because of proximity and speed of degree. That could have been an error. Thanks. Have a peaceful day. Hille

    Hi Hille

I think you are on the right track. If I were close to TESC it would definately be my choice. There are 6 or 7 Dante tests that are considered upper division. I would follow up these with TECEP upper division tests. For someone like your husband I bet this will be a piece of cake. Good luck.

    u and non u

At one time Excelsior (when it was Regents) had a nice list of tests as a reference document on its website. It listed CLEP/Dantes/Regents tests, the level L or U, score to pass, and grade equivalent for various scores. I have not been able to find it recently. I remember that it listed quite a few exams as equivalent to upper level classes. The exam route maybe the way to go. 10 exams for a 2nd ba/bs. Maybe an advanced section of the gre and 4 other exams?
    Good luck!

    exams

I finally made the right click at the Excelsior website and found both the Students Guide to Credit by Examination at Excelsior and the Excelsior Examination Guide.
TESC and Ex may have slightly different policies, but I think both follow the standard recommendations.
Ex does not list any clep exams at U.
Ex lists dantes, Civil War (3), Money & Banking (3), Rise & Fall of SU (3), business law II(3), drug & alcohol, finance (3), and m.i.s. (3) as U.
Ex lists several of its own exams as U, Abnormal Psy. (3), American Dream (6), Ethics (3), Gerontology (3), Nazi Germany (3), pathophysiology (3), psy of adulthood (3), religions (3), research methods in psy (3), world population (3), and many business and nursing courses.
Ex has 9 sem hours U in psy plus gerontology, ethics and org. behavior. Dantes has drug & alcohol. That is a nice cluster of 21 hours in the psy area.
In social studies Ex has 18 U hours, dantes 6 U hours for about 24.
TESC may shade some exams up or down, but in general I think they match Ex.
What credit is available for the GRE advanced?
    All the best!

excelsior is still a dumb name

I was just trying to follow my clicks at excelsior. The files about college exams appear to be on adobe acrobat. 10 minutes ago I could not open them. but they were working fine a few days ago.

    the excelsior website is www.excelsior.edu
when you click on the left hand blue/purple title
"college credit exams" you go to www.excelsior.edu/exold/804.htm
If you then click on Excelsior College Exam Guide you arrive at a long list of adobe acrobat files.
The student guide for exams at excelsior is at
    www.excelsior.edu/exold/pdf/studntgd.pdf
You need adobe acrobat to open it. As of 12 minutes ago I couldn't open it, but as I said, it worked fine a few says ago.
The student version outlines the schools policys on dantes/clep/excelsior/gre and IT tests which I am not that familiar with (microsoft and stuff like that).
you can also order a printed copy (but I think you have to pay for it). I did print the section on the GRE two days ago and it clearly says the subject gre's can be worth up to 30 credits. However, some of the subject tests were/are being discontinued.
    Good luck!
