I am posting an update regarding my son and the BS in General Business degree he obtained from Excelsior College on August 2010. It seems like yesterday when I first made the post, "Looking for online B&M schools accepting 90+credits" (and on other forum) and the frustration he was having with his local university. At first, I had some concerns about him going to Excelsior because of his intentions of wanting to attend graduate school to obtain a Master of Architecture degree and know some of the programs are very selective. Well, after spending countless months preparing for his GRE exam and his portfolio, which I must say was blown away with his work. He has been accepted into the following schools. University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Washington University - St. Louis (60% of tuition scholarship) University of Oregon waitlisted with University of Cincinnati and Virginia Tech. It appears my son is learning toward Washington because of the scholarship, and considering a dual major in either a Masters in Urban Development or Construction Management. I attempted to talk him into an MBA, but it after reading about MUD I would think this would tie in better with his M.Arch degree.
Wow, that's awesome! Tell your son that the DI community applauds him!!! :arms: My own opinion on Excelsior has changed on numerous occasions, but my conclusion on the matter is that it, along with the other 2/3 of the Big Three, is ultimately a score-evener which helps motivated people to overcome obstacles and move forward with their goals.
Joe, That is very impressive and an accomplishment that both you and he should be proud of. While maybe not as well known as some of the others listed, Washington University in St. Louis is a very tough school to get into and has an extremely strong academic reputation. Getting a degree from them will serve him well. Like Maniac stated above, we applaud him on his academic success.
My brother received his BSLS from USNY-Regents College, Excelsior’s predecessor, shortly after his discharge from the Army back in mid-1980. Neither he nor anyone else has ever had any issues or reservations whatsoever with the degree.
When he first mentioned Washington U. in St. Louis, I was like huh??? I didn't know about that school. After I read about them on US News, I was surprised by the low acceptance rate and national ranking. From my understanding, the MArch has like an eight percent acceptance rate.
Joe, I have worked with Washington University with a research project. Wash U is a top flight school!
Quick update: My son just got his acceptance letter from University of Cincinnati. This school has been consistently ranked between #2 to #6 during the last 11 years for their Master of Architecture program. The school only accepts around 14 to 15 students in the M Arch 1 program, and the biggest selling point is their Co-op program. The school has seven hundred employers in their network to have them get 26 weeks of co-op experience. Most of the graduates end up working with the firm.
