I made a call today to inquire about Walden University. The tuition seems a little higher but not as costly as UOP. The enrollment girl said they are on quarters instead of semesters when charging tuition for classes. What has anybody's experience been with this school. And how much can I expect to spend in the end if transferring over with an AA degree? (also, credits that I'd be using are 20 years old...) J
I do not have experience with Walden but if you are seeking an undergraduate degree there are options that are considerably less expensive. No point in naming all of them; do a search for "online degrees in (subject you wish)" and then investigate the tuition. There are state schools that offer online degrees with more options and less cost than Walden. I am not bashing Walden, just sayin'.
TUI, Trident University International, is probably the most liberal with transfer credits. You might also check with Excelsior. Walden is a great school, but it's really costly.
I'm a Walden grad, but I earned an MS, not an undergrad degree. I LOVED the school. I had done brief stints with Uop and Virginia Tech, and I found the Walden program to be far superior. The professors were top notch, and it was obvious they really took the time to evaluate my work. What I liked about my program was that I had each professor twice in a row. They all had at least a Doctorate or something more than just a masters degree. I've considered Walden for a doctorate, but you're right. It's not cheap. Fortunately, alumni do get a discount on future degrees. For my MS, I don't think the cost was that outrageous. For an undergrad degree though, you could probably find a much cheaper alternative. Still, it's a great school! -Matt
What degree are you looking to get? I have no clue about transferring 20 year old credits however I would say you could probably find some place WAY WAY cheaper than Walden to attend.
You know, I would recommend to stay with State schools instead UOP, Capella, NCU, TUI, Walden and etc for Undergraduate Studies. The only reason I go with Capella for Ph.D because others don't offer Ph.D with my criteria. Besides, I don't pay out of my pocket. Why don't you stay with most well known state schools? University of Colorado Colorado State University University of Virginia University of North Carolina California State University University of Illinois and etc.

I am currently at Walden in a graduate program and am loving it. They do not kill you with "busy work"; rather, the assignments you do have are given with enough time between them so that you can actually research and write (and sleep, too!). I have seen the inside of many an online classroom (as a faculty member, student and wife of an online student), and Walden offers a solid program. Also, they have some sort of alumni discount, so if you do the undergrad with them and want to get a Masters or PhD, you could get a nice discount. I hope this helps!
Charter Oak will also take 20+ year old credits, and I think Thomas Edison will. A lot depends on what the credits are in; 20 year old credits in computer science will be a lot harder to transfer than 20 year old math credits. I would echo the other posters; Walden is a great school, but as one of the larger for-profit schools, a significant portion of their budget goes to advertising, which is reflected in their tuition cost. There are quite a number of lower cost state or nonprofit schools you may want to also consider. If you search our archive for the subject area you're after, you're certain to find some threads with discussion of schools in your area of interest.
Reputation wise, it is considered one of the "better" online schools. The program is designed to be completed fast as each class is worth about 5 credits and run every 6 weeks. You can finish your degree real quick compared to other schools. I'm not familiar with UoP but Walden might be a bit on the expensive side but worth it.
