Hi all - I've begun to think about taking the PhD plunge. My BS is in psychology and I have a MPA. I really want to make sure that if I go back, I'm really interested in the topic and course work. I know there are DPA/PhD in public administration, but I'd really like to do more work in development, either at the macro level of international development or even at the micro level of community development. I haven't had any luck finding programs that are tailored for working professionals and are accredited. Anyone know of any such programs? Thanks in advance!
Regent University's Ph.D in Organizational Leadership Indiana Tech's Ph.D in Organizational Management Capella University's Ph.D in Organization and Management Northcentral University's Ph.D in Business Administration (18 Specializations) Lancaster University's Ph.D in Management (various specializations) Sullivan University's Ph.D in Management Walden University's Ph.D in Management -Others Ed.D, DBA, DM in certain specializations. What exactly you want to do with your Ph.D? Outside of the Academia, a Ph.D is not a strong holding position. Sometimes, you're over qualified for the job. Frankly, I don't really want to go for Ph.D especially distance learning. However, I go for it 'cause I get full ride, even get paid to get my degree.
I found three: 1. Tulane University offers DEd degrees in International Development The Payson Center for International Development | Payson Center for International Development 2. University of Southern Mississippi, with some on-campus requirements The International Development Doctoral Program 3. University of South Africa Unisa Online - Development Studies Univ of Sussex has a high quality program, but it is residential
I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with my Ph.D., if I go for it. That's part of the decision-making process, to decide why I want it, how will it benefit my career, etc. Thanks for the list of schools!
I agree with the suggestion of the University of South Africa (UNISA) - an excellent choice, especially given your interest in development.
Would encourage you to be sure you [really] want to do it [e.g., properly motivated], before beginning. The doctorate [especially the research doctorates] are expensive and very time-life consuming. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Best wishes however you decide.
