Utah State University offers several online graduate, undergraduate and certificate programs online; current tuition is $227 per CH (undergraduate) or @288 per CH (graduate). In that Utah State University has offered DL for more than 90-years, seemingly this university is seldom discussed in this forum (?). Perhaps some of our Western State forum members have more information regarding USU...

Utah State also offers Independent Study & Online Courses: Independent Study & Online Courses - Regional Campuses & Distance Education - distance.usu.edu

Currently USU is offering a 50% discount to all returning alumni and first time students for online courses for either the summer 2011 or fall 2011 semesters.

GPAs at that school appear to be very high but the SAT and ACT scores are mediocre. That suggests that the students who go there come from non-rigorous high schools.

USU is the state’s only land-grant university and has very low average tuition costs. As you mention, Utah State has a high student admittance rate (97-98%); seemingly not difficult to get in at all (e.g., admitted students have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and an ACT score of 19 or SAT score of 900). Student to faculty ratio at Utah State University at Logan is seemingly not so good at 119:1. On the other hand, and not reflective of the entire university, but the AACSB accredited Huntsman School of Business graduates ranks in the top 10 percent of pass rates for the CPA exam. Business administration disciplines are the university’s most popular majors.

Rocky thanks for your feedback! My basis in starting this thread was because Utah State has offered DL for quite some time (90-plus years), my inquiry is intended that seemingly few on this discussion board (including me) have not considered USU with its very competitive tuition rate as another viable distance learning option (?).

Utah State U. also has one of the nation's top programs in my field (Instructional Technology).

I think the biggest problems are the low number of programs offered online and the fields that those few programs are in. Unless I didn't look in the right place, these are the only online bachelor and master degrees USU offers:

Grade inflation is a problem in many high schools. Of course, not every university can be Harvard.

You’re correct in that USU doesn’t appear to offer too many pure online degree programs. Their main offerings seem to be hybrid models. One would expect with its longer history in DL, Utah State would expand its offerings (e.g., online MBA).

They used to have a major in Linguistics via independent study. Sadly, they shut that down just before I first heard of it.

Their distance program in rehabilitation counseling is one of the best in the country, it was also one of the first distance programs. Their faculty in rehabilitation are among the more published faculty in the country in their field.

Their COMD degrees (Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education) are amazing and DL degrees. I took classes through them and really liked it. Everyone is super friendly.
