Hi All, I'm considering a Post-Bacc certificate from WGU, but I'm wondering how their courses are viewed by regionally accredited schools. I teach at a State community college and since WGU only awards competency units how does that translate into credit hours for teaching? Can it translate? The certificate would allow me the ability to take a speciality certification that would give me additional areas of expertise to teach, but I'm concerned about the competency units translating as well. I cannot take the certification exam without completing another bachelor's degree, which I don't need since I have two already, or doing this certificate, so I'm kinda stuck. Since I have experience in these areas, the self-paced program at WGU would afford me the quickest path. I have never dealt with these before and I thought someone here would have some insight. Thanks in advance for any help.
It depends on your school. The back of a WGU transcript states that a competency unit translates to a credit hour. This stated, you may want to ask the people who are evaluating your case. The good news is that WGU is NCATE accredited and regionally accredited. I've had WGU units accepted as credits at some places and not others. It's a crap shoot. when you look at the examples. Harvard Extension School - Yes Boston University Metropolitan College - No. So check with your higher ups. Best, ITJD
Finally; most colleges offer a credited class that helps you with these questions; you might find that by limiting yourself you might be ignoring special hidden skills and qualities that are unique to you and may be your greatest asset. _______________ links deleted by moderator
