I am in Penn Fosters associate degree program in Criminal Justice (3rd semester), and I was going to go to TESC but read on the requirements that TESC requires like 18 UL credit in the major itself. And there is no upper level credit in PF's CJ's program. Now, I want to go to Excelsior but I was reading a forum in the past that they don't accept 200 level credit from PF CJ's program? Majority of the courses are 200 level expect 6 of them. What about COSC? I read they accept PF credit since it's ace reviewed, has anybody from Penn Foster in the CJ program transfer credit to COSC and they accepted them?

Transferring credits from DETC to RA is always tricky, but I wouldn't sweat the upper-level requirement; most 4-year colleges place a limit on the amount of lower-level credit you can transfer, and I faced that even with my RA 2-year college.

It's been awhile since I looked at TESC's requirements, but I believe you can satisfy the UL requirement through low-cost online/correspondence courses from 4-year colleges/universities, or perhaps even through TESC courses.

Yeah I know they accept ACE credit, although for some reason for the CJ program with Excelsior, I was reading they don't accept 200 level courses from PF because at EC they are at 300 level. So wait, you completed a bachelors with Excelsior in CJ?

So all of of the CJ courses you are taking through PF are ACE approved? PF does have some courses that are ACE approved but they have tons that are not. There are currently 12 courses that come up for them on ACE for "crim." It seems like that should probably be all of them.

As far as TESC, you would be required to do the 18 upper level credits in the major. 300-400 level courses is what they now consider to be upper level but for a while they took 200 level. So even if you brought in an entire CJ Associates from PF with ACE approved credit you would still have to do 18 credits at 300-400.

Ahhh yes, majority or I believe all the CJ classes in the program are ACE approved. Although, I found this quote on some one talking about TESC and trying to transfer from PF.

"I have not taken any classes through them but I have been looking into it and will share some information I have obtained. Attached is a document from the ACE website that lists all of the Penn Foster CJ courses that are ACE accredited. I was looking at transferring them to TESC and came up with the following:

The BA in Criminal Justice from TESC requires 33 core credits for the CJ Major. No more than six credits can be from 100 level classes. The Intro to LE and Criminal Justice DSSTs will serve as these two classes (according to the TESC catalog).

At least 18 of the 33 credits must be 300 level or above (no penn foster ACE classes are 300 or above). This leaves fifteen credits for 200 and below, only six of which can be 100 and these have already been DSST. You now have 9 credits left that can be 200 level and any three courses from my attached document SHOULD fulfill those requirements (confirm this with TESC).

The remaining 18 credits must be 300 level or above. Keep in mind that a few of these credits are subjects that are specifically required, one of which (Criminal Justice Admin) is fulfilled by the Criminal Justice DSST.

In summary if you plan on transferring these credits to TESC you can only transfer fifteen credits max since no Penn Foster CJ courses are 300/400 level. Of these fifteen you might as well test out of six leaving only nine 200 level classes that you can transfer in from Penn Foster."

So 15 credits only from PF to TESC?

That's why I was thinking of going to EC but than I read some where, this in the forums " I spoke with EC today, and they would not accept any of the Penn Foster Classes that were in the 200 level, EVEN THOUGH they are the same subject and Or Class.

Victimology and Criminology are both 300 level at EC and 200 at PFC, well it was worth a try."

The thing is in this case, I went in the ACE registry and looked up how many PF courses we're 200 level and all of them expect 6 are not. The rest of the 6 we're 100 level.

So this leaves me confused..? I know EC accepts ACE approved credit, but I don't know what to do or finish my 4th semester in PF because who would take PF credit from the big 3.

Now I was thinking, Excelsior offers a BA in Liberal Studies. Aren't CJ credits known as liberal art credits? For the BA in Liberal Studies it requires 90 Arts or sciences. I was wondering, if I go that path would they take my credit as liberal arts credit? Anybody know?

Thanks for the help guys! :)

Excelsior knows. Personally, I would ask them for the real answer. But I doubt they consider CJ to be liberal arts.

CJ credits are considered a professional credits - you could apply up to 59 CJ credits to the BS in Liberal Studies depending on what other credits you have. The BS only requires 60 units in the arts and sciences.
