If you worked in HR what would you think of the name "Global University"....at $125 they are a great buy and are a NP. They have the degree I want but the name Global..my wife hates it and told me to pay more money for a better name. What do you think???

    Sounds cheezy........

You can do much better for not much more from numerous state universities.

It sounds millish to me, even though it is a legitimate institution.

If I were HR for an organization affilitiated with the Assemblies of God denomination, I would probably view Global alumni in a positive light.

Why it is okay to have "STATE" on the diploma, but not INTERNATIONAL or GLOBAL? Isn't that INTERNATIONAL and GLOBAL are big body than STATE? :)

I wouldn't name a school that, but neither would I run away from it if the school had everything else I wanted.

State = backed by the higher education system of a particular state (most of the time)

Global or International = backed by the free-market.

If International or Global were a better descriptor - there would be thousands of alumni from "The Ohio International University" or "Penn Global University", etc.

An exception is Florida International University, which is Miami's public research university. But I guess when it comes to names in higher education, it's pretty hard to find a rule without an exception!

To be honest, unless you have a big name university I doubt it will really make much difference in the hiring process. Personally I think in an interview your qualifications only take you so far. Experience plays a bigger role but personally I believe the way you sell yourself is the most important. If you can leave an impression with your interviewer they will call you back. A piece of paper is only worth so much.
That said I notice you are a Texas resident. Check out Tarleton. They have very reasonable in state tuition if they have the program you want.

What would you guys think of Universitas21 Global (based in Singapore) and Asia e University (based in Malaysia)?

The former is made up of 21 member universities in 12 different countries and territories, while the latter is set up with the support of 31 ACD member countries as confirmed by the Islamabad 2005 and Doha 2006 ACD Ministerial Meetings.

I know that Steve is right, plus, I'm guessing that there are other exceptions but I'm agreeing with Truckie. With a STATE UNIVERSITY you know that you're getting oversight from multiple sources. You've got the whole RA thing going plus the whole state legislature thing plus the fact that it's public gives you access to lots of info, more transparency. There may be problems with some state university systems but, in general, you can't go far wrong by making that choice.

But...to answer b4's question...I don't think a lot of HR people really care. They check (maybe) to see that the school is accredited and then they put a check mark in the box. Is that true everywhere? Absolutely not. It depends on your field and the specific job you're trying to get. In fact, there is so much "it depends" built into the answer to your question that no one can really answer it. If you're trying to become the assistant manager of the local huge department store then it probably doesn't matter. If you're trying to break into some Fortune 100 company then it might just kill your chances.

TUI University sounded worse. Trident University International does not sound better than Global University either. Compared to World College, Global University still sounds a lot better. While "University International" sounds silly, a name like Western International University sounds cool.

What about them? To me they sound cheezy compared to XXXXXX State University or University of XXXXXXXXX. Sorry.

The OP asked about the perception of a degree name on a resume in the eyes of HR person. We all know that most HR people are not going to look to deeply at the quality of education compared to the name of the school.
