Hi all, does anyone here have any feedback about ENMU's Master of Education Administration online program? That is, how are courses graded, is it a lot of writing and is a lack of an undergraduate background a handicap? I searched for comments and saw some good, some bad. I want to make a career change, into education.
    Thanks, Molly

    Hi Molly,

Welcome to Degree Info! I hope you will find everything you are looking for and enjoy the discourse along the way. Here's why your posts don't show up right away: http://www.degreeinfo.com/distance-learning-discussions/35100-new-users-ask-where-did-my-posts-go.html

I don't know about ENMU, but I'm a teacher and I'll tell you what I know about the education industry. It's not very good news, I'm sorry to say. With the current economic situation in the US, the teaching industry is currently heavily impacted. Here in California, there are many teachers who are being laid off and new teachers are finding it almost impossible to find a job. It's possible that things are not as bad in Kansas, but I know it's generally bad in many states. Higher education is not in much better shape because of government funding cutbacks.

More bad news. A Master's in education will not necessarily get you a job in education. For K-12 you will, of course, need a credential. For higher education, you will need experience in the field you are teaching and most college teaching jobs require a doctorate. City colleges will sometimes hire someone with a master's, but those jobs are becoming few.

I'm sorry to give you so much negative news. It does not mean that it is impossible to become a teacher if you are very determined, but it's really tough to get in these days. I'm hoping that the situation will improve over the next several years, but nobody knows.

Hi SurfDoctor, the situation seems to be the same everywhere. However, I was also looking for a new education program and I have never tried DL. The courses sound interesting so if it does not lead to employment I knew that starting out.
Thanks for the reply and this a great, informative site!

Well, I guess there is no one in this program. By the way, I am not interested in teaching. I am more interested gaining new knowledge and perhaps using it in conjunction with the education that I already have.
    Thanks, Molly

Please don't be so impatient. It's been less than 12 hours since you posted. Relax. Take a walk around the neighborhood. Visit with us for a bit. We have thousands of members but they don't spend all their time here. Some people only visit for a few minutes once or twice per week. Have you done a search of our archives? Lots of info in there. Try it while you're waiting for a live response.

Here's a wiki on the school: Eastern New Mexico University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Here's what I see there: It's a state school, so you would not be dealing as much with the dreaded "online DL stigma", which is a good thing. It's got the right accreditation. I would assume that the programs are similar to other schools that offer online classes. You would probably do a great deal of reading and A LOT of writing papers. Those are usually the most salient features of online classes.

Thanks, Wikipedia took all that from ENMU's website. ENMU esponds quickly to questions. I also assumed that there would be reading and wring papers.
