OSU is offering the option of adding a minor to an existing baccalaureate degree. Majors and minors have structural requirements; they are not comprised of a random number of courses in a particular discipline. I graduated from Excelsior and had an Area of Focus I did not know how to define for potential employers, so I asked my advisor if it would be described as a Minor. She said it would not be appropriate to do so, as there was no proscribed curriculum or sequencing of courses required for it.

Yes, but it seems odd for OSU to offer a minor to append to another institution's baccalaureate degree.

This is rather odd...unless you can transfer the credits earned through OSU to your undergrad institution and have them retro-actively grant you a minor tied to your bachelors degree....which I don't think is possible.

The option of adding a minor caught my eye, as it constitutes a specialization, albeit at a lower level. Even so, there are still plenty of jobs that do not require more than an undergraduate degree, especially after work experience has been attained. As greater numbers of college graduates enter the workforce, more credentials can be required by employers to a extent that was not possible in earlier years. It is likely OSU established the option of adding a minor in response to market demand.

If I'm not mistaken, OSU is on a quarterly system, so that number averages out to what other universities would require.
