Does anyone know anything about Alliant International University (AIU)? Today, I got a flier from them in the mail. Subsequently, I visited their website and it indicates that they have some online classes, but I can't tell if a doctorate can be completed online.

Anyone have any scoop on AIU?

It is my understanding that the only online program offered is the Masters in Education. No DL doctoral programs are offered.

    Re: It's OK

When United States International University merged with Alliant University it became Alliant International University. So, it's only known as USIU by those who don't keep up.

OK... you "stroked" my curiousity... what exactly did the flier advertise?

USIU merged with the California School of Professional Psychology and became Alliant International University. USIU did not appear to have a strong reputation within academe... however that may have been a direct result of their business/educational focus on practitioners. It is RA (as previously stated) and it does have a "brick and mortar" campus in/near Miramar, CA (inland-northern San Diego County, just south of Escondido). Their doctoral offerings include a Psy.D., Ed.D. and a D.B.A. program (as I recall).

I have no interest in getting a doctorate, but a friend of mine (who has one) told me that I should pursue one in psychology. When I told her that my undergraduate degree is in business and my masters will be in criminology, she said, "So what! That doesn't matter!" Subsequently, I wonder if she had the flier sent to me?

The AIU website says that they have a doctoral degree in "Forensic Psychology," which it says is good for police officers, correctional officers and others in the criminal justice profession. The website also says that they have "online classes," but it doesn't say how much can be done online towards a degree (50%? 90%?).

The flier essentially indicated the above, but not in as much detail as the website. Also, the flier didn't say anything about online classes.

OK... I have already heard about the doctoral programs in forensic psychology from what was formerly the California School of Professional Psychology (now the other part of Alliant International University). CSPP did not offer their doctoral programs via distance learning... and I would be very surprised to see them do so in the future. The program appears to be very solid academically... and not a program that one would "take on" for three years and walk away with the degree... this appears to be a 5+ year program for working professionals unable to study full time.

It's a good thing that I didn't make any outrageous comments... like "I'll eat my hat if..." I looked up the website for AIU and discovered that four of the PsyD in Forensic Psych classes are online. WOW!

Note: PsyD classes are listed under the School of Social and Policy Studies.
