Any professors/instructors here that can tell me how much time they spend per week teaching an online graduate course? I work full time now and hope to start at DSU in the fall (keep your fingers crossed, waiting to hear if I got accepted), so I don't want to over extend myself. However this is a great opportunity I hate pass up. I hope to retire from my current job in 10 years and teach full time, so this would be great experience.
Time required varies based on a couple of factors. First, institutions vary as to what they expect faculty to do in courses. Schools like Phoenix or ITT have prepared curriculum such that instructors really just facilitate classes and grade papers. Smaller schools often have faculty both develop and deliver material and some pay for course development separately from course delivery. In my experience I typically spend 10-12 hours per week delivering a course to students. This time is split up between preparing for a new week, interacting with students and grading work. Thanks Andy. This is a small B&M school in New England with an established program. So I assume most of the classes are already developed, I might just have to update yearly. Just nervous about time competment because I hope to start the Doctorate program in the fall.
