Alright so I have been lurking this site for a few days soaking up all the information I could. Now the question is what Regionally accredited DETC school is cheaper then thee cheapest Nationally accredited DETC? I have read a few topics with people claiming that now a days you can find a cheap Regionally accredited school online? Ashworth is 84$ a credit and I have yet to find a RA DETC school that is that cheap. I know the difference between RA and NA. I have also seen people claim that other NA schools are cheaper then Ashworths 84$ a credit but when I go to that schools website they are $100 a credit and books are separate? I want to go to a Regionally accredited DETC so if anyone can suggest one that is around $85 not $100 plus I would love to know.
:scratchchin: There is no such a thing as "Regionally accredited DETC". DETC is national accreditation. However, if you are still interested in an RA school, then the big 3 are relatively inexpensive. Western New Mexico University also comes to mind. Where do you live? Check with your in-state schools, many offer cheap tuition to state residents.
Shoshi, welcome to DegreeInfo! Your question is hard to understand. Either you mistyped something, or you need some help in understanding the different types of accreditation. I'll try to find an old thread or article that discusses it and link to it here.
Clovis CC is a very cheap RA school--About $50 an Hour Andrew Jackson is a cheap DETC school---$50ish a credit hour There are schools with DETC and RA--Ellis, WGU, AMU and APUS Penn Foster is not bad for the Price, they have DETC and ACE for the vast majority of their courses.

I have always been sensitive to the cost of education and will typically (though not always) favor the least expensive program over others. However, the op has asked a question that highlights an old issue for us at degreeinfo. Asking "what RA school(s) is cheaper than the cheapest NA school" can be potentially misleading because if there is no RA school that's as cheap or if it's so close as to be a non-issue, does this imply that the NA school is preferred? This is one of the cases where I would say (personal opinion alert) that it would be better in the long run to pay a few more dollars per credit if it meant the difference between earning an RA degree and an NA degree. I am well aware that not everyone agrees with this, especially our members living outside the USA, but the best information that we have available indicates that RA degrees are generally more useful than NA degrees (the gap seems to be lessening). Please don't use this as an excuse to reopen this "debate." Also, I'd want to add one final comment. If you were to discover that the University of XYZ has the least expensive degree programs compared to ALL other schools, both RA and NA, this is really only interesting if they offer the degree program that interests you.
Here is a wiki that should give you the rundown on accreditation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_accreditors
Way off topic but this is what you made me think of........You have to watch for a min or so.
OK by DETC i mean distant education. There are online Regionally accredited schools like (capella, university of Phoenix) are any of these schools 85$ a credit? Sorry if the question was that hard to understand.
AJU is $45 a credit hour but books are not included and they have alot of other fees. Western New Mexico college is 200$ a credit hour.
Not a problem shoshi, we are all here to learn. DETC is a specific national accreditation body which is why the wording was strange to everyone. If you want an acronym of distance learning use DL or whatever other one you like. There are many regionally accredited colleges that offer distance education courses. There were a few listed above including Clovis. I sent a personal friend new to higher education to Clovis about a month ago and they took very good care of her and she is taking her first two classes.
AJU is nationally accredited through DETC but WNMU is regionally accredited. For the colleges in New Mexico they have special pricing if you are taking less than a certain number of credits per semester.
Lets back up a bit. What are your goals with a degree? (i.e. Associates, Bachelors, etc), and what do you plan to major in. If we have that info, then many of us could point you in the right direction. Best, Shawn
Capella, Walden, U of P, NCU are all more expensive than that. Probably the cheapest RA online degree would come from somewhere like Charter Oak state college or Excelsior. Hopefully someone with experience from there could give you some more info. There are DETC schools that are still quite good, but they are not regionally accredited, they are DETC accredited. You would find that the units from them would not transfer to a regionally accredited school but they will offer you a legitimate degree. You might find that a DETC school like Aspen University might meet your needs. It all depends on what you want to do with your degree. What are your career goals?
American Military University American Public University System - Official Site and Western Governors University WGU Online University | Degree Programs, Accredited Bachelor's and Master's both come to mind when one mentions RA/DETC schools.
