In most universities Demography is considered to be a branch of Sociology. I already know that the number of distance learning Sociology grad programs is painfully small but I thought I'd throw out the question to our learned membership...

Any DL Demography graduate programs out there?

Good question. Many demography programs are very math intensive, so I would guess there aren't any at the graduate level. I did find an online undergrad program at a school in Australia once.

You get a little bit of demography training in online GIS programs, and there are a lot of those out there, but not an entire major in demography. Even in B&M programs, demography is usually mixed in with sociology, geography, statistics, urban planning, or economics departments.

If I was going to guess at a school in the US that 'might' offer one in the future, it would be Penn State, since they have online certificates in Statistics and GIS. However. demography is not exactly a major people are running to get. Other than that, I would say UofL's postgraduate diploma in geography would be the closest DL only option.

Currently I am toying with the idea of doing Princeton's Certificate of Demography Office of Population Research, Princeton University (though not online), if I can get work to pay for it. :)

You might look at epidemiology, which is basically the demography of health. Because many health issues are demographic (eg: age, sex, ethnic structure), an epidemiology course should cover about the same as a demography one.

Biostatistics is also based upon demography.

Any MPH program will have epidemiology courses; some specialize in it. And there are MS and certificate programs in it.

The CDC offers a FREE distance course in epi if you want to sample the subject.
