His name appears to have been removed from the aspen.edu site, but other than that, where have you seen this? Just curious...

    Hi All:

I decided to leave Aspen so I could focus my time on some big projects both in the education space and outside of it. I also have a desire to fix DL, and to do that I need to have something that I can have 100% control over. I was really lucky to get to see how a university works from the inside out. I have now, as far as I can tell, done just about everything you can do in higher education and DL education. I’ve been a student at on-line and on-ground schools, I have taught at for-profit and not-for-profit both on-ground and on-line, gotten certified in financial aid, certified in vocational teaching, been through accreditation reviews, government reviews, state reviews, programmatic reviews; I’ve been a course developer, academic dean, university executive, bla bla bla, I totally get this market now. I understand the revenue models for public traditional, private traditional, and private for-profit (or market driven which is a term I came up with that has caught on in the last year). I also have been lucky enough to talk one-on-one with many of the US ED leaders, state leaders, of course DETC leaders, and some CHEA leaders, as well as the presidents of five or six large well known traditional universities. I have been through training programs for DETC, WASC, and HLC institutional accreditation. I have opinions about what is good, bad, and ugly. I also see some great opportunities for socially responsible actions.

My one full regret is that I got caught in an extended meeting in NY and had to cancel a dinner in San Francisco with Dr. Bear in September of last year.

More to come, I plan on leveraging these types of on-line communities, when the time comes, to help fix this mess.

    DEL

Dr. Bear: Hey, that's an easy one to fix. Let's reschedule for the next time we're within 50 miles of one another. Shall we synchronize our GPSes?

let me guess.... the fact that degrees from internet-only schools cost a fortune.

Don't you think it is insane for an online school to charge $70k for a PhD degree that majority of earners of those degrees can't use to do what PhDs are meant for?

Hey! Speak for yourself! My doctoral diploma is going for to work very nicely for its intended purpose; to cover a hole in the wall by my desk and it will look so much nicer than a picture.

Absolutely; I should have a California tour coming up in March/April, assuming I make it back from my trip to an undisclosed location in the UAE at the end of the month for a current project (non-academic) I am working on :)
