    Hi Everyone!

I just have a question. My current academic record at Georgetown University indicates I have attended Big Bend Community College and University of Montana for undergraduate studies. I have never been to these schools nor mentioned anything about them in my application. Does it matter if I need to contact them to correct this information? It does not hurt my academic record at Georgetown, but I am not sure about the future. When I applied, I specified Troy University and Southern Methodist University for my previous schools.

    Thanks!

I would have it corrected. If you are required to submit all official transcripts to an institution for any purpose, it can create complications if your transcript says you have attended schools you did not include in your file.

Yes, you might even be accused someday of falsifying your transcripts if you do nothing even though you did nothing wrong. I would imagine that it would be fairly easy to fix. Most likely it would require a signed letter rather than a phone call.

I would correct it. Something like this could bite you later as SurfDr points out. I would do it after you graduate. What happens if they fix one thing and break another?

I say don't wait until you graduate, do this right away! The longer time goes by, the harder it will be to fix.

Because I waited too long, the instructor died, the dean moved away, the entire program was axed, and no one was left who could fix my transcript problem. Now I have an 'NF' (UF for: The instructor forgot to turn in your grade, I guess you fail) on my transcript where an 'A' should be.

Oh my gosh! That really happened? It almost sounds like you are putting us on.

LOL. Let me clarify the chain of events a little bit.

    1. I took a class, and the instructor forgot to turn in my grade. When report cards came out, he just said he was late turning them in. So I thought nothing of it and let it go.
    2. A week later, he died.
    3. Come graduation time, I checked my transcript and noticed there was still no grade. However, I was graduating anyway (albeit now with a lower GPA since it counts as an F) and was leaving for Japan in a week.
    4. Fast forward several years later when applying to UF for grad school, I tried to get it fixed. (that GPA matters to me now). I was told I had to see the dean of the college. The former dean of the college who knew the instructor who died is no longer there, and the current dean seems to think I'm trying to pull a fast one on him. "How do I know you got an A? Where is your proof?"
    5. Got into UF anyway. Would like to fix it before I graduated again, but because of budget cuts, the entire program that offered the class has been cut and isn't even around. No one can find any paperwork. Could petition for a retroactive withdraw, but it would still appear on my transcript anyway. Wouldn't make a difference in my GPA now anyway, since they don't count undergrad grads when you are admitted to grad school.

Moral of the story, get it fixed ASAP.

Please let us know what you find out. I noticed that all three schools are members of the Student Clearinghouse, so I wonder if the Clearinghouse is reporting incorrect information to Georgetown.

Thanks all for the advices. I have requested to correct my academic at Georgetown University through Registrar office. I have checked the record online recently, and it has not changed yet. I'll give it about a week to see if the system is updated. Otherwise, I'll contact them again.

Once again really appreciate your advices.

On my Valdosta State transcript I have transfer credits listed from Prescott College in Arizona . I have never attended Prescott College. I inquired about this and was told that the records system uses pull-down menus for entering student data. At the time, NCU did not exist in the menu and Prescott was the closest geographic institution. I have thought about potential implications of this in the future. I am going to see if I can swap those credits out with Jacksonville State credits in my continual quest to eliminate traces of NCU from my academic endeavors.

My degrees are real, but those schools are fictional academic institutions bases on TV shows.

Glad you're getting this worked out. BTW, did you really attend Glendale Community College? Do you ever watch the show Community? :)
