Decision made -- I think! :)

I have decided not to pursue certification in gifted education; instead, I now plan to enroll in Baker University's Master of Liberal Arts degree. I couldn't resist the idea of combining study in literature, philosophy, and religion.

I plan on taking a couple of print-based English grad courses from Adams State College in Colorado and transferring them into the Baker U. MLA program. Taking these two courses will renew my teacher's certificate and also shorten the Baker MLA requirements.

I just decided that a master's degree would give me more options than the gifted certification.

I have looked at National University's MFA in creative writing; WNMU's MAIS in English and writing; Southwestern College's MTS; Holy Apostles MA in Philosophy and MA in Theology; Liberty University's MAR; Maranatha Seminary's MA Biblical Studies; CSUDH MA Humanities; Loyola New Orleans MPS; St. Joseph College of Maine MPS; University of Dallas MTS; and most recently Campbellsville University's Master of Theology.

I've also looked at various foreign degrees, and I have considered degrees or endorsements in library science and school counseling.

I have come back to Baker U. because of the ability to combine courses in those areas I'm interested in -- arts, religion/philosophy, literature/writing. As for practicality, I don't know for sure, but I hope and believe it will give me more job options.

I appreciate all the input that I have received here; this has been a tremendous help in making my decision.

Now if I can just stick to it! :)

I have a friend who got an MBA from Baker and really enjoyed it as far as I know (its the husband of one of my girlfriends). Funny you should mention Adams state in your post because I am considering them as well :) Good luck to you!

Isn't Adams the school in Revenge of the Nerds. Home of the Adams. JK.

You’re correct … Revenge of the Nerds (1984) is a satirizing comedy film about a group of Adams College freshmen and their social fraternity chapter of Lambda Lambda Lambda.

Well, here we go again. I just found out that Baker's courses that are cross-listed, for instance as HIS/REL, or LIT/REL, I would have to choose one prefix to be listed on my transcript -- in other words, either History OR Religion, Literature OR Religion, not cross-listed as they are in the catalog.

This presents a hurdle for me, as I want to get 18 credits in Literature (or English), and 18 credits in Religion, so i could teach both areas at a community college.

Does anyone know of a school and degree program where I could do this, and for under $10000, please?

So you can only pick either history, religion or literature? They way you have it written you can choose 2.. history or Religion and Literature or Religion... One from each category. I hate when you get so invested only to find out that something doesn't work the way you planned......

Yes, and I'm at the point where I'm doubting that what I'm looking for exists.
