Well although I would have preferred Freedent or Dentyne, I think Trident is a helluva lot better than TUIU.

Yeah, but neither are very stellar. I know people who who have decided against TUIU because of the name alone.

I wish that they would drop the "International" part.

Perhaps they have enough Soldiers, Airmen, and Marines enrolled and are trying to attract more Sailors? :Eyecrazy:

Instead of giving the school a name that actually works, they concentrated so much energy in making sure the new name has TUI as the acronym. Trident International University would have been better than Trident University International. These are the kind of things that happen when schools, rather than educate people, are run out of offices spaces for the sole purpose of making not just a profit, but a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge profit. Overall, the new name is better than TUI University, but still a bad name. I will continue to use "Tui" University (I tell folks its a North Korean word).

My god that's a bad name!!!! Keep it clean and keep it simple.

Attn: All Schools, Colleges and Universities

Before re-naming or just naming a school, run it by the members a DI.
I will never go to a school name Trident, yes just based off the name.
Just like I will never go to Full Sail or Rainbow University.....
A name is a huge part of a school, look at AMU or APUS, Clean and simple.

    No ...JuicyFruit University International.

What's really up with the international? They must assume that Touro University International was a good name. Just because many folks still prefer Touro does not mean Touro University International was a good name. Their next name in, 2 years time, will be changed, again, to Cypress University International, and then CUI University.

TUI should change their President, and give that job to someone with a PhD. Afterall, do they not require a PhD to teach there? Why require all your professors to have doctoral degrees, while the school President only boast of a MBA? Or are these the sort of inconsistencies that should be expected from for-profit online schools?

No kidding! As a side note: no one should attend TUIU for a marketing degree. If they can't figure out that these names are horrid, I question the level of marketing expertise.

Expertise is not required. All you need is have a PhD from something, and then, you can teach any course there. I had a professor who earned a PhD in Organizational Behavior teach me IT fundamentals. What did he do with the course? He turned it into a communication skills course. In the middle of the course I asked: Professor XYZ why are we teaching/learning communications skills in Foundations of Information Technology course? His reply: It's an IT management degree after all. It's all junk and a waste of time and money. Requiring all your teachers to hold PhD degrees, and then having them teach any course in the school; courses that some of them probably have never taken in their lives, and then have the school run by someone with MBA, only diminishes the quality of the school.

So StefanM, no level of "expertise" is required. The only thing required is your money, got it?

I would agree. IMO, the President of the University should hold a terminal degree.

They could have a CEO/Chairman position for executive leadership.

YIKES. I would think this would be troublesome for WASC accreditation.

Makes you wonder if they realize that they're actually driving away students with crap like this.

This is worse than when Southern Christian University became Regions University (which was then sued by Regions Bank over the name) only to later become Amridge University. I absolutely abhor that name and now I can add Trident to the list. I can even envision the commercial of some dude doing homework and his wife asking "What are you doing, hun?" and he responds "I'm fighting cavities!"
