I have read of several British, South African and Australian research based Masters programs in Engineering, such as MPhil; and have some questions:
    1) Anyone know of any RA schools doing this in America?
    2) One career path I am considering is teaching at the community college level here in the states. Most require a Masters degree, anyone know if foreign Masters such as these are usually accepted for college faculty positions?
    3) I could see employers possibly accepting a British degree, but Australia and SA seem so far away and so exotic. Are they usually accepted and respected in the states?
    4) Anyone know of an RA school awarding a masters in engineering for passing the PE exam, or offering substantial credit for it?

  2. It would not be in the best interest of an engineering school to grant a Masters degree for successful completion of the PE registration process. The only educational requirement for a PE liscense lies at the Bachelor level. ABET pushes for the faculty qualification of a PE and there has been some talk in several states of waiving the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam for the Ph.D professors. However, I know of no state currently that will waive the Principals & Practices exam. Some states have considered waiving the required 4 years experience for the professors prior to taking the exams.

    Regards,
