I had asked a question on this forum recently about University of Phoenix not accepting my homeschool high school diploma as a way to get me in to the bachelors program. Well, I got some names of different schools from people on here to check out. I researched and researched and decided to apply to Western Governors University. It said that I would be able to take all the IT certificates for security ect ect. I had to pay around $60.00 so I knew this was my only shot at attending another school. I couldn't keep applying to different schools due to lack of money for applications. Well I've had a VERY hard time getting in contact with the counselor who is supposed to be helping me through the process. I sent in my transcripts, took the assessment test and passed, and now all I need to do is the 20 minute phone interview and financial aid setup. Every time I call and leave a message it takes him 2 days to call back. I tell him the times I'm available and he always calls at the times I am at work and cannot get away from my work to talk. I call leave a message then email right away. He never replys to my emails and he never gets back to me the same day, like University of Phoenix did. I am beginning to second guess my choices. Is it just that University of Phoenix called all the time and emailed because they cared or to bug me? Does this counselor not care if I attend? What are anyone's thoughts on this? Should I just stick with University of Phoenix for Bachelors since I already have the credits, financial aid and evrything else there? Or should I keep trying to get through to WGU?!

The University of Phoenix is Johnny on the spot with you because they want your money....nothing more. UoP is a for profit university. As such, they really go out of their way to sign up everyone they can. I would not recommend staying with this school.

What made you decide on WGU?

If you are looking for an affordable non-profit school that has great customer service, you should check out Charter Oak State College.

Can you ask WGU to give you a different counselor? Explain what you've explained here, that you're still very interested in their programs but are having trouble connecting with the counselor you have now. You're already halfway through the process so it's likely they'd want to do what they can to keep you.

    I'll second this.

I second what others have said above and have a bit more to add.

Since about 2007 they've had on again off again issues with admissions counselors getting back to candidates. Don't take it personally, just keep trying and if nothing else just keep calling the 866 number and speaking with enrollment til you get enrolled. If you explain your situation clearly the enrollment pitboss will transfer your file docket to another rep.

I did not see this until today. I would call and ask for a new enrollment councilor. I have a great one Yolanda Louie. She returned all my calls within a couple of hours, called when I said I was available and was extremely helpful. I plan on going to WGU for an education Masters. I just need 4 more undergraduate courses. Once I got all my transcripts to them I got my evaluation within 48 hrs. I have been very happy with the customer service. Let us know how it goes.

I had just the opposite experience with WGU. Their counselors contacted me virtually every day (maybe even when I didn't really need them to) so I wouldn't give up. I'm guessing that your current experience will not be indicative of your overall experience.

Like Lindagerr, I had a great enrollment counselor. Kept in contact even past the start of the term to make sure I had everything complete and wouldn't have any issues.
Send me a PM and I'll give you her email. Might be worth contacting her direct and asking if you can change.
