I'm a San Antonio resident and want to complete my graduate degree from a Texas school, for obvious reasons.

The benefit of the San Antonio location is that I could go on campus, which would be one night a week making the potential for networking greater than Commerce. Commerce is AACSB and 30 credits with 18 units of foundation courses while San Antonio is ACBSP and 36 credits with 12 units of self paced foundation courses. Based on this forum and others, AACSB trumps ACBSP as the gold standard of accreditation but I like the fact that I can go on campus locally.

    Which program is better?
Does one school have more prestige than the other?
Which program would be better my career? I work for a private financial services company and am looking to move up into management.
Will the ACBSP degree put me at a disadvantage if I want to teach later?

    TAMU - San Antonio

    TIA!

I like the San Antonio option for the local vibe/networking options.

Are you staying in the local area? If so what is the reputation of the San Antonio campus? Look at your current management and where they obtained their degrees. Don't get hung up accreditation. Often a local school has an established reputation and working arrangements with employers that offset any additional program accreditation. If you plan to move outside of the state then look for the best program with the most recognizable name. I personally did a non AACSB accredited program because it was local and I could mix DL with on campus. In so doing it is much easier to get advisor/professor recommendations, etc... should you want finish other education in the future. Your age and ROI will also factor in to your decision.

    Best wishes,

I'd go with TAMU - Commerce, mainly for the AASCB accreditation. It considered it once myself. Do your research on the accreditation and you will see the difference. If the work load and price are similar, go with Comm. Either way, it's a degree from TAMU! Both diploma's will break-out the college name (Commerce or San Antonio), but the accreditation WILL be more important in the long run. My two-cents. Good luck!

In my view, short of Texas A&M University (Mays Business School) name identification; personally, I wouldn’t consider any of the other 11-universities within the TAMU System About the A&M System » The Texas A&M University System will have any more industry /name recognition than the other. Minus the academia prospective at some later date with an AACSB university college of business (e.g., “…am looking to move up into management.”), industry would likely not identify between whether or not your TAMU system MBA is AACSB, ACBSP accredited or neither.

Nonetheless in addition to TAMU-Commerce (AACSB) or TAMU-SA (ACBSP), within the TAMU System online MBA program options:

Prairie View A&M AACSB MBA: MBA Program Online Option

West Texas A&M online MBA (currently in the AACSB Accreditation Process) West Texas A&M University: College of Business Accreditation WTAMU MBA online (requires 40-49 hours, e.g. foundation courses for non-business degree holders): West Texas A&M University: Master of Business Administration Degree

Texas A&M-Texarkana online MBA or MSBA (New for Spring 2011); however, not AACSB. A&M-Texarkana | On-Line University

Have you considered the University of Houston-Victoria AACSB online Strategic MBA Welcome to the University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration, offering the AACSB-accredited Strategic MBA Online or Global MBA (as few as 30 hours)Welcome to the University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration, offering the AACSB-accredited Strategic MBA Online, Globa MBA Online, and Master of Science in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Online?
