Welcome to the new discussion board!

Well, after testing and playing with the new software for over a month now, we think it's ready for prime time... so here it is!

Everything you could do in the old software you can still do -- and most of it operates almost identically. Just be careful as you're posting, because some of the buttons are in a little different place.

Also, you can now directly message or email other users and/or receive messages from others without having your email address revealed, which should make it much easier to communicate.

And the search engine finally works! We haven't used it exhaustively, but it seems to be quite robust and flexible, so all of the posts that have been unsearchable for months should now be available again.

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or comments on this new software... messages appended to this thread are probably best, so that all of the admins and users can see them and comment.

And you ain't seen nuthin' yet! More neat stuff is on the way!

Dear Administrator, congratulations on the new design. The only thing I miss (and I do not know if it is possible or even advisable) is a chat room so we can know each other a little bit better, and share opinions and ideas.

some of the links don´t seem to work yet (e.g. the link from the "old forum" towards the new one => it has twice the URL in the link source).

Congratulations (but why are Thursdays so big?)

It really is awfully impressive; thanks for all your work.

It is fascinating, but a little unsettling, to see where everyone is at any moment. Rich Douglas is reading about MIGS. Tom Head is taking out the garbage. Tom Nixon is washing his car. Etc.

But why are Thursdays twice as big as every other day on the Calendar? Do you have something exciting planned for us?

I just tried to do a search for the lost "DL Library Support" thread and it didn't turn up. Also, the search function says it doesn't support search terms under four characters, which would seem to indicate some acronyms won't be searchable. Can this be modified?

 

Has anyone else had trouble logging in?

I tried and found that my cookies were no longer recognized.

Having been asked for my name and password, I tried signing in and was told my password was invalid.

So I requested a new password, it was e-mailed to me, but when I tried it I was told that it was invalid too.

So I tried reregistering from scratch, and was told that I couldn't because my username was already in use.

At that point I had just about decided that the gang had blacklisted me. But I decided to try it all again and requested yet another new password, and this time it worked. Took the better part of an hour, but here I am.

I wonder if there are other registered users out there in the same predicament, unable to get in?

But assuming that stuff doesn't recur, I will say that I think that I am going to like all the new features. Thanks to all those who labored to make it possible.

I agree with Neil, Chip. This should warrant at least a Ph.D. in Forumology--based on life experience of course. Now to the big question. Which school?
