Is that a bad thing? I started off at LIU C.W. Post, then transferred to John Jay College of Criminal Justice and now I am transferring to Empire State to finish up my degree.

    Does age really matter?

    Thanks.

Also, if someone were to look at your resume they would see all 3 schools you attended, correct?

I don't see it as a bad thing. If DL works for you, then you are doing something constructive as far as obtaining a degree. You could be sitting around partying and obtain no degree, but you will pay dearly later. If you are going to work for the cops/government, all they care about is a piece of paper that they can verify as "recognized". This means recognized by USDOE and CHEA. A degree will get you in to many positions that require the "degree", but then they will train you anyway.

As far a listing other schools on your resume? I think that is a good thing that shows someone to be "well rounded".

    Keep up the good work!

..do you have to list the colleges you attended? ..or do you list the one(s) you graduated from? Personally, I would lean towards the places you graduated from.

See, personally I'm not sure it's necessary to have graduated in order to list a school. I say this b/c I have seen the highs and lows of schools. I attended LIU and the quality of the professors was really good. LIU as you know is a private college so their tuition was very high. I also attended a city school in John Jay and the difference in educational quality was noticeable. Maybe it's me but to have all 3 schools listed as attendance with classes under your belt from each might be a good added bonus.

I started my Bachelor when I was 20, but took CLEP and DSST exams before I was 20. It is not a bad thing at 22; however, you shouldn't list all the colleges you attended. You should list only the college that you graduated from, and the college that you're currently attending.

    i.e:

Capella University (Minneapolis, Minnesota) (2011 - Present)
    Degree: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
    Major: Organization & Management

Georgetown University (Washington, DC) (2010 - Present)
    Degree: Master of Professional
    Major: Information Assurance

Southern Methodist University (Dallas, Texas) (2010)
    Degree: Master of Science
    Major: Telecommunications & Managements

    Troy University (Troy, Alabama) (2006)
    Degree: Bachelor of Science
    Major: Computer Science
    Minor: Military Science/Leaderships

If I have a choice again, I would attend on campus for undergraduate; but 'cause I was on active duty. I had no option, but completed via distance learning.

Age does not matter in college, you should complete your undergraduate in Criminal Justice. Then find a reputable academic institution for your Master degree. If you want to go for extra mile, then a Doctoral as well. I think you're on the right track.

    Happy Holidays!!!

For one thing, I highly doubt that anyone would even question a degree from ESC. I assume that you live in NYC, since you have attended both John Jay and LIU? This would make ESC in-state for you, even though it is all the way up in Albany. If they see it on your resume, they will all assume that you attended on-campus, especially because of your age, since many young students go away for college.

Now, even if anyone does learn that you did your degree online, I can't see how it could be too bad of a thing. For one, ESC is part of SUNY, which is a very respected name. Secondly, it shows, at least to me, that you are resourceful and dedicated. It takes a lot of work and a unique combination of admirable characteristics to be able to finish a degree online. It also shows that you finish what you start. Maybe circumstances have changed for you and you can no longer go to school on-campus. You aren't letting that stop you from completing your studies! Outstanding!

Normally you would only list the schools from which you obtained your degrees. Therefore, no. If they looked at your transcripts, they would likely see the names of the schools from which your transfer credits came, or you might have to fill out an application that asks for the last X number of schools that you have attended (I recently had this happen to me).

I agree with the others. Don't list a school unless you graduated.

I agree - I attended a dozen schools before I earned my Excelsior Colege BS degree and I do not list them (or my UK equiv of an AA degree)

    Hey,

I'm 22 also and looking at the DL option, so you're definitely not the only one! I was actually going to make a similar thread today, but you beat me to it! I transferred from a CC to the school I'm about to graduate from in May. For my resume, I only plan on listing where I graduated from.

I started taking DL courses when I was 18 or 19, I think. Not a thing in the world wrong with it. This was before there were online courses so all of mine were in the old fashioned correspondence course format.

I don't list the following schools in my resume.

    Undergraduate
    - Louisiana State University (2 correspondence courses)
    - Indiana University ( 3 correspondence courses)
    - Foothill College ( 1 semester)
    - Thomas Edison State College ( 1 Course plus credit bank)

    Graduate
    - George Mason University ( 1 Semester)
    - George Washington University (1 Semester)
    - Aspen University (1 Semester)

I understand where all of you are coming from, but wouldn't be good for it to show that you were accepted to a school like LIU, you were accepted to a school like John Jay, and you attended both a cuny and suny school? How else would they find out?

Let me add my opinion into this conversation; a bachelor's degree is, in most cases, just a hoop you have to jump through. Most of the time, it does not matter whether you went online or B&M or whether you are 22 or 60 or whether you went to a famous school or not. Get your bachelors in the way that works best for you and don't worry about it. Only in certain, rare situations will an employer consider which school you went to. It does happen sometimes, but not that often in my experience. I believe that, as long as you get your degree from a good, regionally accredited school, you will be fine.

To be honest, and not to sound rude, but I can't think of a reason why anybody would care.

FYI, I have a fair chunk of my credits from a very well known tier-1 university, but my degree comes from a school that is nontraditional to the core, and not well known at all either. Very few people will ever know that I once took X amount of courses at X University, but I can only imagine that even if they did, it wouldn't mean a thing to them.

IMHO: On the resume put only the schools you graduated from, and/or any you are currently enrolled in. Putting several schools on there for a single degree might show a lack of stability.

On any application they will most likely as for EVERY school you attended and you will have to list them there anyway.
