What would you aim to accomplish that is apart from the norm?

What sorts of programs and students would you focus on?

Who, what, where, when, why, how?

If I have my own distance learning school; would be:
    Who: I am the owner
    What: Gorman University
    Where: Denver, Colorado.
    Why: Non-Profit Private
How: The accomplishment would be adult learning through interactive learning similar to Skillsoft with video lectures.

Programs: Telecommunications, Information Assurance, Business Administration, Public Administration/Management, Education, Criminal Justices, Nursing, Law, and etc.

If I owned a DL school I would make MC the dean and pay him the big $$$ (I would go surf everyday)

Since we are not talking about budget:
I would get a handful of high profile academics (e.g. for business Porter, Kotler, Mintzberg) plus some specialists on school rankings, and try to develop the first premium DL school.

I'd build one focusing on entrepreneurship and open source IT programs that are marketed to students in low and middle income countries. In fact, doing that is my real life long term goal, and is a significant part of the reason that I'm bothering to do doctoral work -- even though I may get started with it before completion.

For just a moment, ignore my jokes above. I really think that DL should have many more video lectures than they already have. Before I became acquainted with DL, that is what I thought online school really was, and to this day, is exactly what I still think it should be.

It will be similar to the present Aspen U. model except that I'll use the inter-relationship between programs to offer a wider variety of programs.

I like the Penn Foster type schools that have vocational programs being offered alongside academic programs. I also like the idea of going surfing but I don't know if I can make it out to California every week (there's not a lot of quality surfing happening out here on the right coast) :damnit:

Let me know which accrediting agency your school is accredited by. Mine put the brakes on this and is making me submit them one at a time for review, which takes about 2-3 months each and costs $$$. We’ve added 18 new programs/specializations in 18 months, which I am told is a lot. More to come, of course..

    :)

If you can make an MA in Applied Linguistics happen, I can refer a couple of students your way

I would make a zero-residency (Big 3 type) DETC school for undergraduate degrees. Such a school would cater to students with vocational or NA credit transfers that the existing RA schools may not accept.

I would give the school a catchy name like Harvaard University and make certain to price my degrees 10% below whatever UoP charges.

What's about Havard University? Just only the "R" is different, or Tarvard University. :haha: MERRY CHRISTMAS!

There is something positive about Aspen U. All you have to do is ask previous and current students about their experience with Aspen. At Aspen U. you can get a decent education at a fair price. Aspen U. embodies the purpose of online education. The people at Aspen should be very proud. Maybe if Aspen becomes RA the business model may change but at present Aspen is a positive role model that other for profits should emulate. It's not always about money; it's about students.

I considered Havard and Harverd. Harvaard works better for when I get EA Sports to include the Harvaard Aardvarks in its NCAA line-up of games. That bit of marketing should be priceless.

Now that would be an interesting scam wouldn't it? Start a low quality, cheap school and call it Havard University. Students would know it's not the real thing, but I wonder if somebody could fool an HR person, one who just skims over a resume, with a degree from Havard? They skim over Havard and think they see Harvard. Probably not, but it's an amusing thought.

Airtorn, you and I are going to start this and get rich.

Where I work they subcontract to a security firm that confirms all credentials (plus your criminal record, plus your driving record, etc.)

Havard wouldn't get through the screen. (P.S. I know not all employers do this)
