...would it be a game-changer in the world of distance doctorates? How?

Which of you would jump at the chance to apply?

    Tuition & Fees

...as of April 2010 course start dates

Academic Credit - Undergraduate Tuition $250/credit hour = $750 per 3 credit course
Academic Credit - Graduate Tuition $300/credit hour = $900 per 3 credit course
    Audit $230 per 1 credit hour course;
$300 per 3 credit hour course

Yea, an RA degree at that price? I would be interested. It would be like NCU used to be.

It would be a game changer if their tuition is set below all comparable programs from online-only schools. If their tuition is lower and they offer an IT-related program that is NOT business administration (I don't want ANY business administration degree because in my world, I don't need a business degree to administer anything), certainly, I'd enroll. But if its the usual high tuition rates with excuses such as: "it is what the market can bear" (high tuition rationale that we hear alot in this forum), then no game will be changed.

The doctorate tuition would probably be more than their current graduate tuition ($300/credit hr). It'd be ok for it to be higher as long as its not in the range of NCU or the rest of the programs currently offered by other online-only schools.

Agreed, but if it stayed at $300 an hour, I might be tempted to jump ship yet again.

Hahaha.... I thought you found a school for your doctorate? I'm sure if AMU/APU creates a program that accepts ample credit transfers in addition to such low-tuition, many from the likes of NCU and TUI may in fact jump ship too. That's the kind of thing that you do to turn the DL doctorate world upside down. Seriously, I wouldn't mind paying higher tuition (above $300), as long as the tuition is not nothing close to the range charged by NCU, TUI etc. More so, it would be cool if Aspen becomes RA accredited too.

Must not jump ship, must not, must..... Aspen becoming RA might actually cause me to jump ship. Money would be the only motivation though, because I'm really liking LU.

I am confused (but that is nothing new) – APU/AMU is an online only / for-profit school. They are “okay” and considered the “good guys” because tuition is lower than others? But they were also blasted for partnering with WalMart about two months ago. Other online only / for-profits are “bad” and “evil” because charge to much like TUI and NCU…but Capella at nearly $70K is one of the “good guys” because…they have a residential component…that cost money?

I am confused. Is the for-profit that makes them bad or the cost? Is it the “online only” component that makes them bad or not? Did I just miss the memo on which school we should all like and dislike this week? ;) I really wish the biases would be consistent!

OK, I'm only going to tell you once, so get it straight. On Mondays and Tuesdays we are in favor of TUI and NCU. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays we are against them. On the weekends we hate everybody except the school we are currently attending before we jump ship.:Eyecrazy:

I understand and I am okay with that but...tonight is the winter solstice lunar eclipse so I am totally confused as all rules must go out the window!

You forgot to mention that, starting from the moment of degree conferral, the worst school in the world is the one we just graduated from and the best school in the world is the one we almost enrolled with, but never did.

Yes, it would be a game-changer in the world of distance docs and yes, I would apply to their doctorate in history, if they offer it.

  14. Any ideas of what kind of doctorates they'd offer? For that matter, has there been any recent discussion from them about new programs? Are we all just going off of that memo from a decade ago?

There has been no discussion recently on the APUS faculty discussion boards. I had heard a while back that it had been delayed in order to focus on the release of new MA programs which we have seen in the past year. While it would be cool, I think that a launch of a Doctorate would take a back seat to new masters degrees at any online institution.
