Help, exams other than Clep, DSSt, TESC, Excel etc.

Please, does anyone know of other college level exams that give credit. I only know of the following, Clep, DSSt, TESC, Excelsior, AP, Ohio University and North Carolina State. I heard that Portland state has exams but have not found any information about it.

U Excel exams are the new kid on the block in the exam world.

What specifically are you interested in taking an exam in?

 

Not quite what you asked, but Excelsior gives credit for certain professional and technical exams and for credit on your ACE transcript. What subject do you want to test?

If by Portland State you mean Portland, Oregon -- not especially. They accept CLEP, AP, and specific classes (no list given, and they don't spell it out but I think you need to be enrolled there) "approved for Credit by Examination and administered by Portland State departments or schools". This last is not a credit by exam program for the public, it's just a way for current students to test of classes when appropriate, and not unique to PSU.

Between the existing programs, there is reasonably good (if somewhat bland) coverage of college subjects. One can test out of most of an entire degree in several majors. What one cannot do is test out of a lot of really fun and diverse Gen Ed topics or test out of uncommon majors. While this is disappointing, it's understandable as the product of demand. Tests and testing programs cost money to develop. Most students are only looking to knock out a few subjects and may even be looking forward to taking courses on campus, particularly in major. Students testing out of most/all of a degree are in the minority.

I need 3 History upper level. I have already maxed out On DSST, Clep and Excelsior and Ohio U and NC are not options. I am sure that there are colleges that offer their own version of credit by exam tests and you do not have to enroll into the their university or college.

 

Perhaps find a college offering what you want to study and ask them.

You could enrol in an on-line college course and just take the mid-term and final exams. I recently did that with a geology course (I got a C but that is my own fault for doing no study except scanning thru the on-line course notes).

I am currently working on my BA degree but would like to finish as fast as possible. I am interested in knowing more about cleps and other exams one can take to achieve this. One of my main questions is: Can ANY of these exams be taken online?? Without being proctored exams?

I am unaware of any exams of this nature that are not proctored. Straighterline courses and exams are taken online with a proctor. I don't know a ton about ALEKS, but I believe those courses are taken online without a proctor.

 

I can think of two other options depending on your school:

(1) Enroll for a UL History Independent learning course - you are often required to submit a paper in lieu of an exam. Sometimes volunteering in a history museum can be used to satisfy course requirements.

(2) If you are knowledgeable about a topic in history then go the portfolio route.
