    Howdy Folks,

So as I'm trying to extend my list of things to do, I'm starting to look into getting a library media specialist endorsement for K-12. I'm currently certified for History & Social Sciences 6-12, but I've been "interning" in the school library for one period a day for the past 4 years. I figure if I've been doing that, why not get an official endorsement.

I'm looking up courses that I could take to meet the requirements for Virginia, and I've got my eye on a set of courses through the University of Phoenix because they're cheap. They're continuing education courses, and I know from prior experience that Virginia will take these for licensure. However, what I need to know is if Virginia will take the Library Science courses for the appropriate endorsement.

Does anyone know if the courses will count? These are
    LBR500
    LBR501
    LBR502
    LBR503
    LBR504
    LBR505

That would give me 18 of the 24 credits necessary for endorsement if Virginia will take them. I'd probably go with ODU for the remaining 6 credits, but that's ONLY if Virginia will take these UoP courses. If anyone knows or has experience with them, please let me know.

    Thanks, Okiemom.

I appreciate your help. However, while that provides a good amount of information, it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Because I'm only looking to get an endorsement in Library Media for K-12, I'm not really that concerned about ALA accreditation. I'm simply wondering if Virginia would accept UoP's courses for the endorsement.

I requested information from UoP regarding schedules of courses, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'm only interested in these because they're a lot cheaper than my alternative. $600 per course at UoP is much better than $1000 per course at ODU, even if it is in my state.

Thanks. Fairmont is actually in West Virginia, so I'd have to pay out of state costs. It also states that it may require some on campus things. Nice program though. If I were nearby, I'd totally do it.
