I'm finishing up a Bachelor of Religion degree through LU online, and am now looking ahead to a graduate program for Chaplaincy. I like Master of Divinity - Chaplaincy | Liberty University Online and can transfer in 33 of the 72 credits, keeping in mind that "Only graded course work from accredited institutions will be eligible for transfer."

Liberty is going to charge me $265 per credit hour, (I personally am incapable of taking enough credits to get the block discount of $2200/semester). Finances are a definite consideration for me, so would be very pleased to take 33 credits elsewhere for less than $265/hr if I could find them.

    My questions are:
    Where should I be looking?
Are there any DL/Online courses which are ATS or RA and are less than $265/hr?
Is Liberty the best deal out there for graduate classes?
Are there other methods to gain graduate credits than traditional courses? (In undergrad there was CLEP/Dantes etc)

You have Global University or if you know a bit of Spanish you can enroll in the Spanish program that is not really in Spanish. Books are in English however the assignments have to be delivered in Spanish, in that case tuition would be $135 x credit only.

Here are two options that came to mind, both are NA but Liberty will accept NA credits (though you'd probably want to check with them before taking courses from any other school with the intent to transfer):

City Vision College (TRACS accredited) is a Christian college which offers online courses for $150/credit, not sure if they allow you to take courses without enrolling in their programs or not.:

    City Vision College - Courses

Perelandra College is a Christian DETC accredited school which offers courses for $200/credit, they have mostly writing and counseling courses and DO allow students to take courses without enrolling for a degree:

    Thank you all!

I speak zero Spanish - but I will mention that program to a friend of mine, for whom it may work very well.

City Vision is a great idea, but I could find no graduate level courses there. Am I not looking in the right place?

Perelandra had several courses that will work for me. I'm especially excited about the writing class Lit 551, Bible as Stories!

I really appreciate all the help.

Susitna, sorry you're correct, City Vision only offers undergraduate courses. I'll let you know if I think of any others.

Dont forget about Global University they are RA and tuition is about 220sh x credit hour for grad level plus you may earn a grad certificate, an extra credential for your resume. Classes are rigorous, a lot of papers to write per class, however no proctored examinations. They offer a set of discounts if you are in the miltary or depending of your geographic location. For example for Mexico the rates are much lower if you happen to live near the border, I would enroll from there and issue solved.

    Susitna,

I am in a similar situation. I also have a BS in Religion from LU's online program and am looking for a bargain MDiv program. Luther Rice Seminary is an option. They are accredited through TRACS which is fine for military chaplaincy. You may also find that they will give you some advanced standing for your undergrad in Religion. They are around $200 a credit hour. Also, if you are Southern Baptist, you can take advantage of the SBC discount given at SBC seminaries which makes them very reasonable. New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary has a "Distance Learning MDiv" that you can take up to 60 hours by distance and the remaining 30 in week long intensives or you can test out of some classes and NOBTS will consider them residential courses. If I find any better deals I will post.

Johnson Bible College offers an MA in Bible. You do have to make at least two trips to Knoxville, TN.

    New Testament

The cost is upto $240 a credit, when I was taking classes in the grad program it was $125.

Look into Campbellsville University's "M.Th." completely online non-biblical language. It is really a M.A. as far as curriculum. However, RA and will accept 12 or 15 semester credits... using your LU degree you will need only 18 or less credits! Campbellsville University
