    I am currently getting a B.S. in Business Management from Liberty University.

    For my masters since I am active Duty Navy, I was interested in 2 distance learning programs and I can tell you about them. I am interested in doing something administrative in nature possibly in the human resources field. Which one would be more beneficial or suit me for a job outside of the military?

    (1) University of Oklahoma M.A. in Administrative Leadership

    long with this interdisciplinary approach to understanding leadership, students will also develop an understanding of and appreciation for the requirements of research at the graduate level. Special courses focused on research as well as class assignments are preparation for the program completion options. Students can choose an individual research project, a thesis, or an internship or can opt to take six hours of advanced, focused coursework. Should you choose to complete a research project, the College recommends that this final project take the form of an organizational administrative analysis, a case study, or other such approaches related to leadership.

    General Program Objectives

    * To understand the role of leadership across history, cultures, and organizations;
    * To understand components of leadership, issues within cultures, and behaviors of leaders within organizations;
    * To carry forth knowledge and strategies from literature, research findings, and practices to current and future leadership situations; and
    * To connect the ideals of liberal education to organizational settings in terms of practice, research, and synthesis.

    (2) Central Michigan University M.S. in Administration

    The Master of Science in Administration degree provides the knowledge and skills required for administrators and supervisors to function effectively in a wide variety of administrative settings, plus the specialized processes and competencies needed for a particular professional field. It is offered in nine concentrations.

    Any advice would be appreciated

    I would do an MBA instead, unless you are planning to be a GS type, in which case an MPA would be better.

    Actually either will work.

    Hi fellow Liberty student!

    I agree with obecve. You will not go wrong with either program and a general MBA with the appropriate concentration will also work. The main criterion for getting a job in HR is experience in the field. If you have none yet, you will most likely have to take a low level job and work your way up. Unfortunately, an advanced degree is no longer a free pass into a management position. (If it ever really was)

    I agree with the above... I believe both would work for you but have you also looked into Masters in human resources administration? It might a little limiting but if you are sure that is what you want to do then I say look into those programs as well.

    The reason I chose these 2 schools, is because there is not a lot of Math involved as I am not too good at it, and for the sake that I can use a military discount. I could also go back to Liberty, but I heard that it is better to get your masters from a different school.

    Either degree (or an MBA) in itself will generally NOT be of help to you in entering the field of human resources at a non-assistant or non-'office servant' level unless you've got experience in the area. It should help, however, if you pursue any of those degrees (a master's in human resources would probably be more practical) and do a significant internship or practicum along the way, which you could then use for the "some experience" part...

    Since I am in the military and plan to do this while I am in, would leading personnel or being an Equal Opportunity Representative for a command suffice?
