I have decided to put my goal of getting my Masters in counseling off until we settle which looks like it might be faster than I thought (2 years or so). So in the meantime I have to decided to pursue another masters that will compliment my undergraduate degree (Human Service)and the intended Masters in Counseling.

So can you guys help with some suggestions of degrees that you think would complement? I want RA and ideally less than 15-20k total but would love under 10k.
And it must be an online degree with minimal if any campus requirements. I can do a 1-3 week stretch for a class if needed but that is about it!

Some areas that I am interested in working in are:

Prisoner rehabilitation/or anything with justice system
    substance abuse/any addictive behaviors
    domestic violence

I look forward to what you come up with!

The one that is high up on my list right now is the WNMU MAIS.

Adult Education/Workforce Development might be of interest to you.

This could help in assisting individuals return to a normal life through employment and education.

    From the University of Arkansas:

The cost is just over 10k for the entire degree.

I think the MS in family studies or professional development at Amberton might fit the bill. The degrees offer great flexibility to take courses in a variety of human services related areas at $700 per 3 credit course.

At the top of my list would be any number of master's over at APUS. American Public University System At a glance, there were 3 that I thought you could make a case for. There is an MBA with various concentrations, one in non-profit which might be helpful depending on the kind of work you plan to do in the future. Another is a basic masters in psychology, and they have a master's in criminal justice. APUS is RA and cheap! All online. $300 per credit puts a full price degree ~11k. They accept transfer credit too, so anything you may have started for the counseling masters could double dip over there.

EDIT: There is also Northwestern State http://www.nsula.edu/ Someone here (Maniac?) said you could do a full RA masters here for ~5k. I hate their website, and can't figure out exactly how much it all costs, but it's a lead you can also try.

Northwestern State is a good recommendation. Spring 2011 tuition and fees may be found here (yes, the site is pretty crappy). NWSU has a tiered tuition model, whereby one can take between 9-20 credits per semester can pay nearly the same price ~$2500, plus a $50/course fee. I suppose it would be possible to take 12 classes over two semesters and pay around 5k for the degree. It's quite possible that I would be a raving lunatic after enduring a grueling schedule such as this, but perhaps someone else could give it a go!
