Dissertation is approved - I am done (sort of)!!

My dissertation was approved about two weeks ago and I only have the defense left. I will have that scheduled for mid-November. It took just over six years but it is just about over. There have been many ups and downs (mostly ups) and I am happy and proud to graduate from NCU. I have some additional educational goals to complete then plan to take a long needed break.

On a very positive note - I have applied to and have an interview scheduled for a TT position at a school that requires a PhD to teach. I think that is an excellent sign of the acceptance of DL degrees but during the phone screen the department chair was more interested in my practical work experience and what I bring to the table.

Yes mostly ups by volume but the the downs were bigger ones! The stress over the last 4-6 months has been almost unbearable and I felt myself close to an emotional breakdown a few times!

That is wonderful news! (about both the dissertation approval and the interview). I wish you all the best in both. At this time, you should know more about your dissertation topic than anyone (including the professors on your defense panel). My defense was actually one of the most pleasurable parts of the dissertation process because it was just like giving a conference presentation (including the questions at the end). In just a short time, you'll hear those magic words: "Congratulations, Dr. Randell"

 

Thank you - to be honest, I want the interview more for the experience and don't have any plans (at this point) of leaving my corporate job. I guess it will depend on the offer if it ever gets to that point.

 

Randell, I have great respect for you and your accomplishment. (OK, I'll admit to a little bit of envy too) Earning a PhD from NCU is quite a feat and you should be proud. I doubt that anyone who has actually attended there can criticize the rigor of their programs. It is really tough and a degree from NCU is something to be extremely proud of.

 

Congratulations! If your advisor has done his job then the defense should go smoothly.

 

Randall, Congratulations on a major achievement. Six years is a long time but the rewards will be worth it. Hopefully your defense will go as smooth as it possibly can for you.
