Oh, I'm loving a new site. TOTALLY free, but at this time limited to maths, science, technology and the sort. CK12.ORG - FlexBooks

There is a short tutorial on the homepage- worth a look. This is an awesome source that you could maybe use in place of a course text if you are the student *depending...you know how some teachers love to assign chapter questions.... but perfect for any of the ECE, CLEP, DSST, etc exams.

Then comes the fun part. In a nutshell, you can use the text books as is (pdf or html) or you can customize your own favorite chapters from any of the books to create your own custom text. You can even edit content! Save within the site, or download and print. You can even send it to your twitter/facebook/etc. Then, you can make a teacher's edition if you want. I made a homeschool geometry textbook w/questions for my oldest in about 15 minutes- this concept is freakin amazing! So, the book becomes saved that you can read online or print out.

I can't imagine that in the digital age, that sites like this one won't become more common. Love, love, love this site. I'm making myself a DSST statistics study book today also. Free, free, free.

If you don't like Jennifer's advice, we'll give you a free one year membership to Degree Info.

Fine Print: Degree Info is already free, so you don't actually get anything.

Yeah, my fine print. If you send me your address for a refund, I might show up for dinner.

These books look great, I could really have used them in an education project a couple years ago with grade school students here in China. However it should be noted, according to the FAQ, these books are made possible with an open/free license, because all of the content is copy/paste from Wikipedia if that is of any concern to you individually. (It's not for me, but some folks are, for various reasons, anti-Wiki).

Great concept, but I searched a few topics and found every result to be taken from Wikipedia. Wikipedia is open-source and there is no guarantee that the content is accurate. Every faculty member I know grades down when students use Wikipedia as a primary reference source.

And rightly so. But that's not because it contains misinformation, that's because as an encyclopedia it's not a primary source. Fortunately, the goal of Wikipedia is to cite all the information in it, and it's those lists of references at the end of each article where students should start when using Wikipedia as part of their research process.
